YULETIDE: Okowa Calls For Pot-Hole Free Roads

Asaba:The Delta State Executive Council has charged the Direct Labour Agency (DLA) to ensure that roads in the state are free of pot-holes to ensure free movement during the yuletide season.
Commissioner for Information in the state, Mr Patrick Ukah flanked by the Commissioners for Education and that of Science and Technology, Mr Chiedu Ebie and Hon. Joyce Overa dropped the hint in a press briefing on the outcome of the state executive council meeting held in Asaba.
According to the Commissioner, “the state executive council approved money for the remedial work to be done on the Warri/Eku road, Eku/Sapele road and other roads in the state because of the Christmas celebration,” adding that despite the economic situation of the country, the “the Governor Okowa administration is committed to making life better for the people, though this cannot be without some challenges.”
The Commissioner for Education disclosed that four new schools have also been approved for construction in the state.

He used the occasion to restate Governor Okowa’s commitment to free education in the state, asserting, “we have zero tolerance for illegal collection of levies and we have noticed that the secondary schools in the state are in need of seventy thousand seats while the primary schools are in need of fourteen thousand seats; the state executive council have approved for the provision of the seats.”
“We are addressing the dearth in infrastructure in our schools gradually and we will hold school heads responsible for the destruction of furniture,” the Commissioner said, assuring that schools will be established in areas they are needed based on the availability of resources.
Hon. Overa also threw light on the Information Communication Technology (ICT) centre donated to the Delta State government by Zenith bank, disclosing that the EXCO approved that the centre be operated by private investor who will give 60 per cent of funds generated to government while he takes 40 per cent.
