Youth Group to Imo Govt, Police: “Prepare for Mass Arrest”

KADUNA/Nigeria: A frontline movement, National Youth Alliance (NYA)  has frowned at the gestapo style abduction of its Imo State Chairman,  Mr. Chinonso Uba (Nonsonkwa) on October 20, 2024.

NYA President, Ambassador Aliyu Bin Abbas in a statement on Monday October 21, 2024, said that the Imo State Government and the State Police Command should be ready to arrest all the youth if Nonsonkwa is not released unconditionally.

According to the statement signed by his SA Media and Publicity, Okpani Jacob Onjewu Dickson, made available to newsmen in Kaduna on Monday, NYA insisted that if Nonsonkwa had committed an offense, there are constitutional ways he could have been invited by the police instead of abducting him by blocking his vehicle on the road.

It described the statement issued by the Imo State Police Command, signed by its Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP Okoye Henry as watery, insisting that NYA IMO State chairman is being persecuted for his believe in human rights protection and good governance, which he has always advocated through his programme on radio as an On The Air Personality (OAP).

“The statement by the Imo: Police Command alleging that he was  arrested over   “CYBERSTALKING, CHARACTER DEFAMATION, MISINFORMATION AND INCITING CIVIL UNREST” is not only laughable, but Undemocratic.

“It is expected that if indeed he was engaged in any of the above allegations, what stops the police from inviting him, instead of the abduction by plain clothes operatives.

” We are using this medium to call on the Inspector General of Police to call his men to order to either release him unconditionally, or charge him to a competent court,” the statement said.

It added that the Operatives of the Imo State Police Command claimed that they arrested Mr. Chinonso Uba (Nonsonkwa) on October 20, 2024, following a written petition from a concerned citizen regarding viral videos, where he engaged in Cyberstalking, Character Defamation, spreading misinformation and inflammatory statements related to the burning of the National Open University (NOUN) Study Center in Nsu, Ehime Mbano LGA, on September 30, 2024, inciting civil unrest.

“The Command denied that he was not abducted. and  is currently detained at State Headquarters and will be arraigned in court with appropriate charges once a comprehensive investigation is completed, we find that as Undemocratic and insist he should be released unconditionally,” it said.
