Worshippers in Delta State sends Anglican Pastor Packing
Sapele: The Vicar of the St John Anglican Church Amukpe Sapele, venerable Nelson Emebeyor has been sent packing by members on the allegations of financial impropriety and other alleged cases of high handedness.
A close source at the church, who doesn’t want his name on print revealed that the former vicar of the church, Venerable Emebeyor allegedly collaborated with the treasurer of the church to corner the finances of the church since February this year as they refused to present the financial statement and position of account before the church which informed the decision of the church to throw the pastor packing.
The source added that it is the constitution of the church which stipulates that accounts of parishes must be rendered on monthly bases, but the Pastor, Venerable Emebeyor and the treasurer refused to do so for over five months and based on this, the entire church moved pass a vote of no confidence on the treasurer and the Pastor.
He added that the Pastor was immediately given 72hours to quit the church premises together with his family while the church committee(PCC) was also dissolved and an 8 man committee was set up to manage the affairs of the church for the mean time since August 2016.
They alleged further that based on the decisions of the church, the treasurer in collaboration with their Bishop and Pastor Venerable Nelson Emebeyor went to the Police station and arrested members of the 8 man committee and other members who were perceived to be opposed to the Pastors maladministration and criminal tendencies.
The matter has been charged to the magistrate court sitting in Sapele while the Pastor it was also alleged, has packed to an undisclosed location within Sapele metropolis, as the news has it that the church has increased in membership since the clergy left and they have become more united and dedicated than ever before now.
He added that they now use lay evangelists in the conduct of church services as all those who left the church because of the Pastors high handedness and intimidation have all returned.
In the meantime, the pastor it was also alleged has resulted into using a makeshift canopy to hold a church service in the outskirt of Amukpe-old road every Sunday having been thrown out from his original church.
At the time of filing this report the pastor could not be reached on phone and his new resident could not be traced.
