Women Cooperative Society Floated for Wealth Creation in Isoko

EMEVOR/Nigeria: In line with the prosperity agenda of Delta State Governor, Senator Dr Ifeanyi Okowa, a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain, Dr. Pharm. Nelson Ejakpovi has floated a cooperative society for women in Emevor, Isoko North local government area of the state.

At the formal flag off of the cooperative society Sunday, January, 20, 2019, Dr Ejakpovi observed that he was surprised to discover that most of the women in the community have not keyed into different empowerment programmes of Governor Okowa due to lack of formal platform to enjoy the facilities.

He said, “From 2015 till date, a lot of women youths have become millionaires, entrepreneurs from different programmes of the administration of our Governor.”

“This gathering is to honour our mothers; they have supported us so much; we cannot thank them enough; our Governor is very passionate about empowerment issues, but, we cannot wait for government to do everything for us; one of the criteria is to access government loans is through cooperative societies; we are aware that most of the beneficiaries of loan facilities for instance belong to cooperative societies, but, I was surprised that while some persons have benefited from the programmes, most of the women in Emevor are yet to utilize the windows of opportunities created by Governor Okowa to grow their wealth,” he stated.

Dr. Ejakpovi who is the Chairman, Governing Council, Delta State School of Health Technology, Ofuoma disclosed that the funding of the initial takeoff of the cooperative society was one of his philanthropist gestures and does not expect anything in return other than the growth of the cooperative society and financial freedom of its members.

“We have always assisted people financially to solve challenges but, that is not the way to go if they must have financial freedom, they should be thought how to fish, not given fish always” he said, adding, “our people are well organised, they have good structures and I am confident that they will grow their wealth with this cooperative society; it is for women of Emevor across political, religious divides.”

He continued, “with this cooperative, the women, our mothers who are mainly farmers and traders will have the opportunity to access different loan facilities, empowerment programmes of Governor Okowa because, our Governor has done very well, he has provided a lot of opportunities for our people to be empowered and don’t forget that during the townhall meetings, at every local government area, he did not fail to beg the people to have cooperative societies to enable them have full access to government facilities because, as individuals, it may be difficult but, as an organised group, the reach, the potentials are unlimited.”

Dr Ejakpovi thanked God for providing him with the means to assist people and commended Governor Okowa for the political opportunities, noting that as an active member of the PDP Campaign Council of which he is the Secretary to the Medical Committee, “at all the venues of the rallies, you will see the passion, the conviction in the people that there is no alternative to Governor Okowa till 2023.”

“We are sure of the victory of Governor Okowa and with the inauguration of the PDP Campaign Council in South South Zone of which I am a member, we are confident of 100 per cent votes for Alhaji Atiku Abubakar as President, and you know, we are sure that all the candidates of the party will be victorious,” he asserted.

Those who spoke at the occasion include the Odion of Emevor Kingdom; Chairman, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Delta South Senatorial District, Chief Emmanuel Amgbaduba, President-General of Isoko Development Union (IDU), Chief Iduh Amedhe, IDU Women Leader, Chief Mrs Felicia Suleiman, pioneer Speaker, Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emmanuel Okoro, Chief Saliba Umuokoro and a host of others.

Chief Amgbaduba at the occasion, described Dr. Ejakpovi as a grassroots politician, respectful, and a philanthropist who has a listening ear to his people.

According to Amgbaduba, “today is a great day in Isoko land, we have a great son who has come out to provide the means for the women to help themselves out of poverty; this empowerment programme of Dr Ejakpovi has a long term impact, it is sustainable and will make the women to key into the prosperity agenda of our Governor, Senator Dr Ifeanyi Okowa; I congratulate Dr Ejakpovi for achieving this year, I congratulate the women of Emevor because, I am confident that they will benefit from different empowerment programmes of Governor Okowa. ”

Chief Amadhe had in his, thanked Dr Ejakpovi for his commitment to the success story of Governor Okowa administration, disclosing that plans are on to electrify Emevor Community, while the construction of Emevor/Orogun road had commenced.

Dr Ejakpovi presented a cheque of N3 million for the commencement of the cooperative societies, while dignitaries at the event, supported the initiative with millions of naira.
