ABBI/Nigeria: The 1990 alumni of Abbi Grammar School, known as the Unique Nobles 90 Association, made a significant contribution to educational development in Ndokwa West, Delta State, on Thursday by donating learning materials worth over ₦1 million to their alma mater and its sister institution, Abbi Comprehensive Girls Secondary School.
The donation, which included textbooks, notebooks, chalk, and other supplies, is part of the association’s ongoing efforts to improve the quality of education in their community.
The presentation ceremony was attended by members of the alumni group and officials of the Abbi Grammar Old-Student Association (AGOSA), who praised the initiative.

Comrade Shedrack Onitsha, Chairman of Nobles 90, urged students to take education seriously, dispelling the growing notion that education is a “scam.” “Education is a key equalizer in society,” he said. “We want each of you to understand its value and use it to build a brighter future.”
Representatives from AGOSA, including Barr. Nelson Okuzor and Sir Godsday Owetemu, commended Nobles 90 for their dedication to supporting their alma mater. Owetemu, who serves as AGOSA’s home-based chairman, called on other alumni sets to emulate this gesture, stating that the government alone cannot meet all the school’s needs.
The donated materials included up-to-date textbooks in subjects such as Mathematics, English, Physics, Biology, and Chemistry for both Senior Secondary School 3 (SSS3) and Junior Secondary School 3 (JSS3) students. Thirty-five JSS3 students from low-income families were also provided individual copies of Mathematics and English textbooks to aid their studies.

Onitsha, reflecting on his time at Abbi Grammar School, recalled the resilience and discipline instilled in the students during their formative years. “We started here in 1984, and the determination we learned has carried us to success in various fields,” he said.
“Our set has produced professors, PhD holders, business leaders, and professionals across many industries.”
He encouraged the students to remain focused on their education and announced additional support from the alumni, including incentives such as covering WAEC and JAMB fees for high-achieving students. “The resources in the library are there to help you excel, so make the most of them,” Onitsha advised.
At Abbi Comprehensive Girls Secondary School, the top ten JSS3 students were presented with educational materials, and branded notebooks were distributed to JSS1 and JSS2 students.
Mr. Monday Oshilim, Principal of Abbi Grammar School, expressed his gratitude to the alumni group. “It’s inspiring to see former students giving back to the school. These textbooks are a valuable addition to our library and will greatly benefit our students,” he said.
Mr. Ogume Gabriel, Vice Principal of Abbi Comprehensive Girls Secondary School, also appreciated the donation, emphasizing the importance of alumni contributions to improving education.
“We are grateful that the Nobles 90 Association included our school in this initiative, even though they graduated from Abbi Grammar School.”
Both school leaders called for further support from the government and alumni to address pressing needs such as desks and perimeter fencing for the schools.
The ceremony concluded with the official handover of the textbooks to the school libraries, marking a significant step in enhancing learning resources for students in the Abbi community.
