UNIDEL, Delta Online Publishers Forum Forge Strategic Collaboration for Enhanced Media and Academic Coverage

AGBOR/Nigeria: The Delta Online Publishers Forum (DOPF) and the University of Delta (UNIDEL), Agbor, have agreed to a strategic collaboration aimed at enhancing media and academic coverage of the institution. This decision was the outcome of a meeting held on Thursday, August 8, 2024, between members of the DOPF and the Vice Chancellor of UNIDEL, Professor Stella Chiemeka, at her office in Agbor.

During the visit, Professor Chiemeka commended the online publishers for their significant contributions to raising the university’s profile through effective media coverage.

“I am impressed with the extensive publicity your Forum has given to our activities,” Prof. Chiemeka remarked. She emphasized that the media exposure provided by DOPF had not only boosted the institution’s popularity but also positioned it as a preferred choice for prospective students.

The Vice Chancellor, a professor of Computer Science, expressed the university’s enthusiasm for the proposed partnership with DOPF, which she believes will further elevate UNIDEL’s standing.

“We are known for academic excellence and strong sporting records, and I am optimistic that this synergy will be successful,” she added.

She also highlighted the remarkable growth in the number of applicants to the university, noting a surge from around 1,000 to over 11,000, despite the admission quota set by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).

She revealed that all 74 academic programs offered by UNIDEL have been accredited by the National Universities Commission (NUC) within the past three years. Additionally, she mentioned that the university’s medical courses are currently undergoing accreditation, with high expectations for full approval by the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria.

“Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has approved the use of the Trauma Centre in Agbor for our medical programmes, which will undoubtedly enhance the quality of graduates from our College of Medical Sciences,” she noted.

Earlier, the DOPF Chairman Mr. Emmanuel Enebeli, has congratulated Professor Chiemeka on her appointment and lauded her for the significant achievements recorded during her three-year tenure.

“We look forward to a more robust partnership with UNIDEL, ensuring that the university’s activities are prominently featured in our publications,” Mr. Enebeli assured, expressing confidence that the collaboration would be of immense benefit to the institution.

Mr Enebeli, also used the visit to thank the Vice Chancellor for engaging Mr. Edward Ogude as the Director of Media and Communications.

Present at the meeting was the Director of Media and Communication of the institution, Mr. Edward Ogude.
