Ukah Calls For Exams Department, CIE’s Synergy

ASABA/Nigeria: Delta State Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Mr. Patrick Ukah, has called for robust relationship between Chief Inspectors of Education (CIEs) and the Examination Department in the ministry.

Mr Ukah, who gave the advice in Asaba, during a meeting with the CIEs, said that the synergy would ensure effective service delivery, especially in the area of registration of candidates for external examinations and charged them to brace up to discharge their duties diligently.

While urging them to always interface regularly with the principals and school  heads in their areas, Mr Ukah warned against illegal collection of levies in schools, just as he frowned at the poor performance of students in external examinations.

He said that it was the responsibility of the CIEs to clear the registration of all eligible candidates for the conduct of every examination.

Mr Ukah emphasised the need for schools to refrain from registering candidates that were not their students for any examination, adding that the initiative would go a long way in checkmating examination malpractice.

He said that for a student to leave his or her school for admission into another school, a formal letter concerning the student was required from the principal of the school they were leaving, reiterating that once students got to SS2, they must not be allowed to change school.
