Ubu Bridge on Ughelli-Asaba Road Dualisation to be Completed by December 2024, Says Gov. Oborevwori
OGWASHI-UKU/Nigeria: Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has assured that the Ubu Bridge, a critical component of the ongoing Ughelli-Asaba Road dualisation project in Ogwashi-Uku, Aniocha South Local Government Area, will be completed by December 2024. The Governor made this announcement during an inspection tour of the project on Tuesday, coinciding with the state’s 33rd-anniversary celebrations.
Governor Oborevwori also visited the recently completed 9.1km Isheagu-Ewulu Road, where he expressed dissatisfaction with the quality of the side drains. While he commended the contractors for the satisfactory asphalt work on the road, he insisted that corrections must be made to the drains before the project could be commissioned. “Without those corrections, I will not commission the project,” he stated firmly.
Speaking on the progress of the Ughelli-Asaba Road dualisation, the Governor highlighted the challenges posed by the rainy season but expressed confidence in the contractors’ ability to deliver the Ubu Bridge on schedule.
“This is one of the most critical parts of the dualisation of Ughelli-Asaba Road. I have been here three times, and you can see the challenges they are facing with the rains. However, they have assured us that the bridge will be ready by December,” he noted.
Governor Oborevwori emphasized that funding was not an issue for the project, as it is under the Irrevocable Standing Payment Order (ISPO), ensuring steady financial support. “They don’t have any reason not to work because they are on ISPO, so they don’t lack money,” he added.
Explaining the rationale behind conducting project inspections on the state’s anniversary, the Governor said, “We first gave thanks to God, and thereafter decided to go to work because today is a working day.”
“We cannot just do thanksgiving and go home to celebrate. While some are focused solely on celebrations, my team and I chose to use this day to inspect important infrastructure as part of activities marking the state’s creation anniversary.”
Governor Oborevwori’s commitment to overseeing the state’s infrastructure projects, even on a significant day of celebration, underscores his administration’s dedication to development and progress in Delta State.
