Take Leadership Roles Irrespective Of Position, Expert Tells Women

ASABA/Nigeria: Women have been encouraged to take leadership roles irrespective of the position to be vied for.

The CEO of Edumarshal Organization Lady Stella Blaize, gave this advice, during a leadership workshop for young ladies, tagged: “Empowering the Female Child” at the Federal College of Education Technical (FCET), Asaba and WestEnd Mixed Secondary School Asaba.

Lady Blaize who was represented by the Lead Facilitator, Mrs. Pamela Odibeli stated: “The leadership role assigned to women is low compared to that of the men, hence we are taking the awareness for women to be committed to leadership to the grassroots.”

She further stated that there was a need to clarify an unconscious bias that has made women see some positions as meant for men only.

Mrs Odibeli encouraged the women to get female role models, stressing that part of the way to becoming good leaders and distinct in the leadership role including polite, reading, having good morals, being teachable, and learning to take responsibility for their actions.

She advised them to shun excuses of any kind any time they have been chosen to lead and always learn to support other women.

In her lecture, on Gender-BasedViolence, the Creative Director, of Aunty Behi’s Culinary School Asaba, Mrs Obehi Okonkwo, stated that there were different forms of gender-based violence women suffer from, she encouraged them to speak out anytime there was any form of violence either at home or at school or even vying for a position.

Mrs. Okonkwo encouraged the women to support one another, protect each other, as well as have confidence in themselves as leaders that they were.

The Student Union Government President, Federal College of Education Technical (FCET), Asaba, Comrade Ifeanyi Iyiegbuniwe, described the programme as timely, where most women tend to shy away from leadership roles, even as he expressed gratitude to the organisers.

The leadership workshop for young ladies and girls was also held at Asagba Mixed Secondary School, Anglican Girls Grammar School and Dennis Osadebe University Asaba.
