Supreme Court Ruling Humbles Chief Kenneth Gbagi in Delta State Election Dispute,” Says PDP Spokesperson

ASABA/Nigeria: The spokesperson of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 general elections in Delta State, Olorogun (Barr) Fred Latimore Oghenesivbe, has declared that the former governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Chief Kenneth Gbagi, has finally been humbled by the recent Supreme Court ruling. This ruling effectively ended Gbagi’s legal battle against the election winner and the governor of Delta State, Rt Hon Sheriff Francis Oborevwori, causing his legal venture to “crash like a pack of cards.”

Oghenesivbe made this statement during a public affairs live radio program in Asaba on Friday. He highlighted that Gbagi’s legal actions were nothing more than an attempt to remain in the news and create frivolous petitions and appeals, leading to numerous judgments that ultimately brought him to submission at the apex court.

He went on to reveal that Gbagi resorted to seeking misleading evidence not originally included in his initial petitions, attempting to persuade the tribunal to reopen his case. Oghenesivbe firmly asserted that the courts, including the Tribunal, are impartial entities for justice dispensation and are not to be manipulated to serve personal interests. The evidence and facts were clear that Gbagi’s performance in the polls was abysmal and beyond reasonable doubt.

Oghenesivbe recounted his efforts to extend an olive branch to Gbagi shortly after the PDP’s governorship candidate, Rt Hon Sheriff Francis Oborevwori, was declared the winner of the election. He attempted to add value to Gbagi’s declining public image, but Gbagi rejected the offer, opting for the unattainable.

The PDP spokesperson emphasized that everyone, regardless of their social or financial status, is equal before the law, and Gbagi should heed this constitutional and legal fact. He highlighted the landslide victory achieved by Governor Oborevwori and the PDP in twenty-one local government areas of Delta State and pointed out that Gbagi never won in any local government area.

Gbagi’s pursuit of justice was described as fruitless and academically devoid of legal merit by Oghenesivbe. He acknowledged the Supreme Court’s statement, which declared Gbagi’s actions as chasing shadows and wasting time and financial resources, while simultaneously wasting precious court time.

Oghenesivbe predicted Gbagi’s eventual return to the PDP, where he rightfully belongs as a founding member, due to SDP’s uncertain standing in Delta State. He further envisaged Gbagi joining forces with Governor Oborevwori to advance Delta State in alignment with the M.O.R.E Agenda, extending support for the party and its governor.

The spokesperson concluded by congratulating Governor Oborevwori, PDP party faithfuls, and the people of Delta State for their recent Supreme Court victory, and expressed optimism that other appeal cases, including that of the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Augustine Ovie Omo-Agege, would also favor the PDP.
