Sunbeth Global Concepts Champions Sustainable Cocoa at Chocoa 2025

LAGOS/Nigeria: Sunbeth Global Concepts (SGC), a leading player in Nigeria’s cocoa industry, reaffirmed its commitment to ethical sourcing and sustainability as a gold sponsor, exhibitor, and panellist at Chocoa 2025, the premier marketplace for high-quality cocoa and chocolate. The event, held from February 4 to 9 as part of Amsterdam Cocoa Week, brought together global stakeholders in the cocoa value chain.

As one of Nigeria’s key cocoa exporters, SGC sources approximately 35,000 metric tonnes of cocoa beans annually and works with over 3,000 local farmers to enhance productivity and access to premium international markets. The company has introduced transformative solutions, including hybrid seedlings to boost yields and initiatives aimed at improving farmers’ livelihoods.

At the Chocoa Trade Fair, where over 100 exhibitors engaged with more than 2,750 industry professionals, SGC leveraged its platform to emphasize the importance of fair farmer compensation and sustainability amid rising global demand for ethically sourced cocoa.

“Chocoa 2025 presented the ideal platform to engage stakeholders on pressing industry issues such as the EU’s regulation on deforestation-free products (EUDR), conscious consumerism, balancing living income and wages of farmers, and the need for ethical labour practices,” said SGC’s Sustainability Director, Oyinkansola Owoyemi. “Events like these enable us to advocate for solutions that directly improve the lives of farmers while addressing systemic challenges. At SGC, we are committed to a sustainable cocoa supply chain where farmers are empowered, their incomes are enhanced, and their communities thrive.”

Beyond its exhibition, SGC played a pivotal role at the Amsterdam Sustainable Cocoa Conference, where Owoyemi participated in a high-level panel discussion on February 7, titled “Why Should We Care More for Invisible Farmers and Workers in the Cocoa Supply Chain?” The session examined the challenges faced by underrepresented cocoa farmers, wage mapping, and the risks of forced labour.

“Supporting the local farmers who contribute significantly to Nigeria’s success in the global cocoa market is a key priority for SGC,” Owoyemi noted. “From upskilling farmers and providing hybrid seedlings to connecting them with premium buyers through our Rainforest Alliance certification programme, we aim to improve incomes and promote long-term environmental and social sustainability.”

As SGC continues to champion ethical sourcing and farmer empowerment, the company looks forward to building on the momentum from Chocoa 2025 to drive further impact in Africa’s cocoa industry.
