PORT HARCOURT/Nigeria: Leaders of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) from the South-South geo-political zone on Friday praised the National Working Committee (NWC) for successfully conducting congresses across the country.

They also lauded the leadership qualities of the Acting National Chairman, Alhaji Umar Damagum.

In a statement issued after an emergency meeting held in Port Harcourt, the leaders expressed their appreciation for Damagum’s commitment to democratic processes and his effective leadership of the party.

Chief Desmond Harry, Chairman of the PDP Harmony Group, articulated the sentiments of the group, highlighting the progress made under Damagum’s stewardship.

“Alhaji Umar Damagum has demonstrated a deep understanding of leadership and management since assuming the role of Acting National Chairman,” Harry said. “The party is more united under his leadership, and he is fulfilling his responsibilities with dedication and integrity.”

The leaders commended Damagum for enhancing political discourse within the party, maintaining strong relationships with governors, reconciling aggrieved members, and expanding the PDP’s voter base.

They credited him with fostering internal party democracy and ensuring that the PDP remains a significant political force in Nigeria.

“Damagum’s unique approach to managing internal party matters has been crucial in uniting the party,” the leaders noted. They called on all PDP members to provide unwavering support and cooperation for him as he continues to strengthen the party’s structure.

The South-South leaders reaffirmed the PDP’s commitment to the welfare of the people, emphasizing that unity within the party is essential for meaningful progress.

“PDP is the party of the people, the hope for the future of this country. Without unity, we cannot achieve our goals. We must support Damagum in his efforts to unite the party and secure victories in the upcoming elections in Edo and Ondo states.”

They urged PDP members from other regions to focus their efforts on resolving political challenges and contributing to the party’s success.

“Alhaji Umar Damagum is a master of utilizing resources, both human and otherwise, to achieve set goals. His energy and passion are driving real change in the PDP,” the leaders added.
