ISELE-UKU/Nigeria: The Senator representing Delta North, Prince Ned Nwoko, has taken a major step toward advancing sports development in the region with the construction of a mini sports stadium in Issele-Uku, Aniocha North Local Government Area. The project, aimed at fostering grassroots sports and youth empowerment, is part of the senator’s broader vision to transform Delta North into a hub for athletic excellence.

The initiative was confirmed during an official tour of Senator Nwoko’s ongoing projects in Delta North, led by his Chief of Staff, Dr. Michael Nwoko. Journalists and community leaders were taken through the project site, where Dr. Nwoko provided insights into the scope and objectives of the stadium. According to him, the facility will feature a state-of-the-art football pitch, a seven-a-side pitch adaptable for multiple sports, pavilions on both sides, and modern dressing rooms, all built to international standards.

“Senator Nwoko has always been passionate about grassroots sports development,” Dr. Nwoko stated, pointing to the senator’s establishment of Nigeria’s first Sports University in Idumuje-Ugboko, which is now in its second academic session. He emphasized that the university is designed to groom young athletes by integrating formal education with professional sports training, ensuring they have a balanced career path.

Beyond grooming future sports stars, the senator’s vision extends to providing opportunities for established athletes without formal education to earn academic qualifications. The stadium, which is being developed on the site of a defunct local government sports facility abandoned since the early 2000s, is expected to breathe new life into the area, creating a vibrant sporting culture.

Originally planned for construction within the Local Government Secretariat in Issele-Uku, the stadium project faced an initial setback. However, with the intervention of Hon. Emeka Nwaobi, Majority Leader of the Delta State House of Assembly, a new site was secured following approvals from the Delta State Government and the Delta State Sports Commission.

Dr. Nwoko assured that the construction is progressing rapidly, with engineers working under strict directives to meet the senator’s ambitious timeline. “The distinguished Senator has given a marching order to ensure all projects in this phase, including road constructions, are completed and ready for commissioning in the coming weeks,” he stated.

Once completed, the mini stadium is expected to become a rallying point for sporting events, talent discovery, and economic activity in Delta North. Senator Ned Nwoko’s commitment to grassroots sports development continues to set a new standard in youth empowerment, positioning Delta North as a leading center for athletic excellence in Nigeria.
