Senate Begins Legislative Process on Bill to Establish Federal College of Agriculture in Idumuje-Ugboko

ABUJA/Nigeria: The Senate has commenced legislative action on a bill seeking to establish the Federal College of Agriculture, Idumuje-Ugboko, Delta State, as the proposed legislation scaled its first reading on Thursday, March 27.
Sponsored by Senator Ned Munir Nwoko, representing Delta North Senatorial District, the bill aims to strengthen Nigeria’s agricultural sector by creating a specialized institution for research, training, and innovation in modern farming techniques.
Senator Nwoko described the initiative as a strategic move to tackle food insecurity, youth unemployment, and economic stagnation. He emphasized that the college would equip young Nigerians with the necessary skills to drive the nation’s agricultural transformation.
“This college is not just about education; it is about transforming our agricultural sector, empowering young people, and ensuring that Nigeria becomes self-sufficient in food production,” Nwoko stated.
With the bill advancing to the next legislative stage, stakeholders in the agricultural and education sectors are expected to rally behind the initiative, recognizing its potential to drive sustainable development in Nigeria.
