School Principal Commends Gov. Okowa For Transforming Education Sector, Sports Devt In Delta

ASABA/Nigeria: The Principal of West-End Mixed Secondary School, Asaba, Mrs Augusta Ogeah has commended Delta State Governor, Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa for the massive transformation of the education system as well as for providing an enabling environment for sports to thrive in the state.

Mrs. Ogeah, who made the commendation in Asaba on the occasion of the 14th Annual Inter-House Sports Competition, also appreciated the State Commissioner for Secondary Education, Mrs. Rose Ezewu, the Chairman of the Post Primary Education Board (PPEB) , Chief Mrs. Christiana Etaluku and other stakeholders in the education sector including the Permanent Secretary in Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, Mr. Augustine Oghoro and the Permanent Secretary in PPEB, Mrs Mabel Ekpenisi for their ceaseless contributions in driving the sector effectively.

Represented by the Vice Principal, of Administration, Mrs. Osharive Grace, the Principal described school inter-house sports competition as a good platform to assist students in fostering leadership skills, developing a growth mindset and embracing the team spirit.

Mrs. Ogeah, who said that the competition was organised annually as a deliberate measure to encourage sports development among students, noted that West-End Mixed Secondary School was known for her commitment to achieving both academic excellence and sports development of her students.

While saying that inter-house sports activities had tremendous benefits to every child as a veritable tool for talent discovery, Mrs. Ogeah urged every stakeholder in the sociey to encourage sports development of the children.

The Principal enumerated challenges confronting the school to include unavailability of a generator to enable the school pump water for students’ use, repair of old toilets to complement the new ones so as to meet the needs of the students, the need to build a badminton court and instruments as well as repair of the fallen gate of the school.

In their various remarks, the Principal of Government Model Secondary School, Asaba, Dr. Mrs. Obiajulu Chinyelum Eboka, the Chairman of Parents Teachers Association (PTA), Mr. Chukwurah Anthony, the Principal of Zappa Basic Secondary School, Asaba, Mr. Opone Godson as well as a retired Permanent Secretary of PPEB, Mrs. Felicia Aghadoma advised youths of nowadays to embrace sports just as they described the weekly allocation of sports in the school calendar as a welcome development.

They stated that school inter-house sports provided an opportunity to allow the children to express themselves in different ways and described Mrs. Ogeah as a committed educationist with an uncommitted determination to add value to the lives of the students.

Dr. Eboka and Mr. Chukwurah specifically explained school inter-house sports activities would bring students together to compete in one activity or the other, adding that children should participate actively in sports as a result of its multiplier effects.

At the end of the competition, Purple House clinched the first position while Green House emerged second with Blue House occupying the third position respectively.
