Sapele Residents Urge Delta State Health Commissioner to Improve Healthcare Quality

SAPELE/Nigeria:  Patients in the Sapele Local Government Area are urging Delta State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Joseph Onojame, to encourage healthcare workers across the state to demonstrate greater dedication and commitment to their duties.

The patients made this known to newsmen at Sapele Central Hospital, where they expressed their concerns over the standard of care being provided. One patient, who chose to remain anonymous, acknowledged the efforts of many healthcare professionals but highlighted instances of inadequate care. “I acknowledge the hard work and dedication of many healthcare professionals, but I have also equally experienced subpar care firsthand. I am using this medium to appeal to our commissioner for health to motivate healthcare workers to be more attentive, compassionate, and dedicated to their patients’ well-being across the state, not just here in Sapele.”

Another patient, also speaking on the condition of anonymity, shared similar sentiments, citing experiences of long waits, neglect, and inadequate care. “I have experienced long waits, neglect, and inadequate care, emphasizing the need for improved communication and a more patient-centric approach by healthcare providers,” she said.

She added, “I understand that healthcare workers are doing their best, but that’s no excuse for shoddy care because they are dealing with human life. I want to implore the Delta State health commissioner to use his leadership to inspire and motivate healthcare workers to strive for excellence in patient care.”

The patients’ collective hope is to ignite a renewed sense of purpose and dedication among healthcare workers, ultimately leading to better health outcomes and a more positive experience for all residents in Delta State.
