Sachet Water Producers in Delta State Declare Three-Day Strike, Cite Rising Production Costs
EFFURUN/Nigeria: In response to the escalating costs of production, sachet water producers in Effurun, Jeddo, and Warri, Delta State, have initiated a three-day strike commencing on Friday, March 15th, 2024.
The announcement came through a statement issued by the coordinator of the sachet water producers in the mentioned areas, Comrade Cletus Ebohon. This statement, disseminated to the press on Friday, elucidated the reasons behind the strike and outlined the directives for the participating members.
One significant directive outlined in the statement is the enforcement of a clean-up exercise within the premises of the producers during the three-day strike period. Failure to adhere to this directive would result in sanctions, as indicated by the statement.
Moreover, the statement highlighted a pivotal change regarding the pricing of sachet water. Effective Monday, March 18th, 2024, the price of a bag of sachet water will surge from three hundred and fifty naira to four hundred and fifty naira. This increase, as elucidated in the statement, is attributed to the mounting production costs of sachet water.
The statement, while emphasizing the challenges faced by producers, urged consumers to understand and accommodate the price adjustment, underscoring the necessity for cooperation and support amidst the prevailing circumstances.
The decision to strike underscores the economic pressures faced by small business owners in the region, with the rising cost of production exerting a significant strain on their operations.
As the strike unfolds, stakeholders, including consumers and regulatory bodies, closely monitor developments, anticipating the resolution of the impasse and its potential ramifications on the local economy.
