Rt Hon Guwor Joins 36 State Assembly Speakers at Conference Induction in Abuja
ABUJA/Nigeria: The Conference of Speakers of States Houses of Assembly in Nigeria kicked off its Technical session and Induction proper with an impressive lineup of attendees, including the Rt Hon Emomotimi Dennis Guwor of Delta State, alongside 35 other Speakers of the State Houses of Assembly.
The gathering served as a platform for participants to reflect on ongoing reforms and evaluate the progress made under the leadership of the Conference and its partners.
Under the watchful eyes of his peers, the Governor of Delta State, Right Honourable Sheriff Oborevwori, delivered a captivating keynote address during the opening ceremony of the induction program.
Oborevwori, who previously served as the Deputy National President of the Conference, was greeted with immense joy and warm greetings from fellow Conference members. His ascent to the position of State Governor was regarded as a proud moment for the assembly members.
In an exclusive interview with our correspondent, the Speaker of the Delta State Assembly, Right Honourable Emomotimi Guwor, shared his perspective on the significance of the program. He stressed the importance of this opportunity for new Speakers of State Assemblies to interact, exchange experiences, and establish mechanisms to uphold the achievements of their predecessors. Guwor expressed optimism that the knowledge gained from the induction program would further equip him and his colleagues to tackle the challenges they face in their respective states.
The program’s agenda was outlined by the renowned facilitator, Mr. John Mutu. It featured presentations, plenary discussions, and question-and-answer sessions on a wide range of vital subjects, including Emotional Intelligence and Transformational Leadership, Effective Leadership for Emerging Legislatures, Managing Effective Executive-Legislative Relations, Experiences From the Past and Shaping the Future, as well as Financial and Administrative Autonomy and Independence of the State Legislature.
Distinguished guest speakers graced the occasion, adding their expertise and insights to enrich the program and provide valuable guidance to the attending speakers. Among these notable guests were Professor Olabisi Williams from the National Institute of Security Studies, Right Honourable Yakubu Dogara, former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Senator Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, former Governor of Sokoto State and current Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Right Honourable Olakunle Oluomo, Speaker of the Ogun State Assembly, and Right Honourable Bawa Abdullahi, former Speaker of the Niger State House of Assembly. Their presence promised to enhance the program and offer valuable insights to the participating speakers.
