Rivers State Refutes Claims of Shutting Down NNPCL Operations
PORT HARCOURT/Nigeria: The Rivers State Government has swiftly denounced claims circulating on social media alleging that Governor Siminalayi Fubara ordered the shutdown of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) and other oil companies operating in the state.
The report, described as a baseless fabrication, was dismissed by state officials as the work of unverified and misleading sources.
In a statement signed by Warisenibo Joe Johnson, the Honourable Commissioner for Information and Communications, the government labelled the report as a deliberate act of misinformation, suggesting it originated from individuals intent on spreading discord in the state.
The statement reiterated that Governor Fubara, a leader committed to lawful governance, has not issued nor considered any directive to suspend oil operations in Rivers.
“We enjoin Rivers people and well-meaning Nigerians to disregard the spurious and fake report,” the statement read, adding that the governor remains focused on supporting the state’s economy and fostering a conducive environment for legitimate enterprises.
In dismissing the rumour, the Commissioner further underscored the administration’s reliance on due process, reaffirming Governor Fubara’s dedication to responsible leadership and reinforcing that no policy decisions of this nature would be taken through unofficial or unsubstantiated channels.
As Rivers State continues to advance economic growth and stability, the government urged the public to rely on verified sources for accurate information regarding official matters.
