Presidential Poll: Atiku’s Witnesses Reveal INEC’s Flaws, APC’s Rigging
ABUJA/Nigeria: Abubakar Atiku, the former Vice President of Nigeria, caused controversy when he brought subpoenaed witnesses to testify in the hearing of his petition on Wednesday.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), President Bola Tinubu, and the All Progressives Congress (APC) objected to their testimony being heard until June 8.
Atiku’s legal team had complained that INEC was frustrating their litigation against Tinubu and the APC, despite having paid N6,000,000 in fees to the electoral body.
The court granted the order to subpoena witnesses, and Atiku called his first witness, who was an Adhoc staff of INEC.
However, INEC, Tinubu, and APC objected to the taking of the evidence of the witness.
The court proposed a 30-minute adjournment to allow respondents to look at the documents and cross examine the witness. INEC insisted that the witness cannot be taken as he is an Adhoc staff of the Commission, and the hearing was adjourned until June 8.
