OZORO/Nigeria: Residents of Ozoro in Isoko North Local Government Area of Delta State took to the streets in protest, expressing anger and frustration over the activities of cattle breeders in the town. The unrest was sparked by a violent altercation in Oramudu bush, where two residents were attacked by the breeders.

According to reports, a well-known local figure, referred to as the “Bush Landlord,” and his friend were rushed to the Ozoro General Hospital after being severely injured by the cattle breeders. The confrontation occurred following a heated argument, during which the victims attempted to stop the breeders from encroaching on the area. Both men were butchered in the attack and left in critical condition.

In response to the violence, residents, including youths, women, men, and children, took to the streets in protest, demanding immediate action. The protesters called for the closure of shops and a halt to commercial activities until their demands were addressed. Carrying placards advocating for the right to life and freedom of movement, the protesters highlighted the dangers posed by the presence of the cattle breeders, particularly in farming areas.

The demonstration culminated at the Ozoro Local Government Council, where the protesters sought an audience with the council chairman, Hon. Emmanuel Egbabor. However, the chairman was not available, and the protesters were informed that a security meeting would be held on Monday, September 23, to address the situation.

Rumors circulated during the protest that the herdsmen might soon evacuate the town, but this remains unconfirmed until the outcome of the upcoming security meeting. The residents continue to demand swift action to ensure their safety and prevent further violence.
