Our Focus is to Organise a Credible Election that Will Unify People of Ndokwa-Okolugbo
LAGOS/Nigeria: The 2020 Election Committee that was setup to organize the election that will bring in a new executive to run the affairs of the apex social cultural body of the people of Ndokwa, Ndokwa Neku Union, NNU, had said their mission is a direct one, which is to put in place the machinery that will elect the new executive to run the cultural body for the next four years.
The Chairman of the committee, Sir Ken Okolugbo made this statement during an interview, where he stated the committee will do their best within the mandate giving to them. He pointed out that the committee will not fail the people of Ndokwa as they are ready to usher an executive that will unify all segment of the people.
He said they had consulted widely different stakeholders, and are still consulting, in other to carry all the people with their different opinions along.
Sir Okolugbo, who used the occasion to thank the people for the massive support they had so far giving to the committee, said election will hold within four weeks after the lifting of the interstate lockdown. He called on them to be patient and continue their support to the committee, as the delay in the election was as a result of the Novel Coronavirus pandemic, which had caused a massive shake up in social and economic activities.
According to him, the committee was constituted on March 20, 2020, prior to the lockdown, but it was unfortunate; they were unable to swing into action before the shutdown of movement. He stated that it is necessary to wait for the interstate to be lifted to allow those outside Delta State to travel down for the election.
“We thank the people of Ndokwa for their massive supports to the committee. We had consulted widely, and everyone we had met had given their supports to the committee. And we must know that the election is for the people of Ndokwa. Many of our people are outside Delta, those outside will have to travel down to vote. And for us to achieve that, it will only be after the lockdown”.
“The committee had consulted with many stakeholders, which included traditional rulers, elected political office holders of Ndokwa Extraction, former President Generals of Ndokwa Neku Union, and many others who had given their supports to the committee.”
He stated that the committee is not unmindful of the demands of some segments for a caretaker committee, but he pointed out that their job is to organize the election, but not to run the organisation, or setup a caretaker committee.
The story of the Ndokwa Neku Union, NNU, had not been a smooth sail all the way and the immediate executive led by Chief Johnson Opone faced a lot of opposition, but they were able to achieve some milestone.
Many Ndokwa Commentators had said that the people of Ndokwa need a strong executive that will carry out the mission of placing Ndokwa in a better position to negotiate for the development of the area, being the second largest ethnic group in Delta State, and blessed with massive oil and Gas deposit.
The committee had so far consulted with Rt. Hon. Christopher Ochor Ochor, Deputy Speaker Delta State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Friday Osanebi former Deputy Speaker Delta State House, Hon Charles Emetulu representing Ndokwa West in Delta State House, Pharm Paul Enebeli, Chief Godswill Obielum, the three Commissioners representing Ndokwa in the State Executive Council , the traditional Ruler of Emu, who is the Chairman Board of Trustees of NNU, the traditional ruler of Ibedeni, Amai, Umuebu, Ezionum, Utagba Ogbe and many other Ndokwa sons and daughters.
