Onyeme Raises Alarm Over Alarming Rise of Cultism

ASABA/Nigeria: The Deputy Governor of Delta State, Sir Monday Onyeme, FCA, has voiced deep concern over the alarming prevalence of cultism in society. Onyeme made this distressing remarks on Wednesday during a meeting with members of the Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices (POCACOV) at his office in the Government House, Asaba.

Onyeme did not mince words when he highlighted the dire consequences of cultism, particularly on the youth. He implored all Nigerians to actively engage in the battle against this menace, emphasizing that the future of the nation depends on it.

The Deputy Governor articulated, “Whichever way anybody may look at it, cultism has not done this nation any good; it is a horrible, negative vice that has eaten deep into our society. Anybody who can reverse the direction and make our people not be interested, not engage in cultism, that person is a true patriotic Nigerian who wishes Nigeria and humanity well.”

He further stressed the need to mobilize as many individuals as possible in the fight against cultism, urging for re-education and setting an example to dissuade others from embracing this perilous path. Onyeme underscored the imperative of a transformed society where safety and security prevail, ensuring that children can go to school without fear.

“All of us desire good things, all of us desire Nigeria to be good, and we should sincerely work to make Nigeria a good place,” Onyeme asserted passionately.

In a commendation of the POCACOV members, Onyeme praised their dedication to combating cultism, recognizing the noble objectives of their mission. He acknowledged the devastating impact of cultism, particularly on the youth, stressing the urgency of their efforts.

Rt. Hon. Precious Ejenake, the Administrative Officer of POCACOV, elucidated the organization’s mission, explaining that it was initiated by the Inspector-General of Police. The primary goal is to rescue Nigerian youth from the clutches of cultism and other vices, with the overarching aim of creating a safe and secure environment in line with community-oriented policing principles.

Ejenake outlined the organization’s objectives, including public awareness about the dangers of cult membership, revitalizing public security awareness, instilling moral values in the youth, and rekindling those in adults.

Dignitaries, including the Commissioner of Youth Development, Comrade Agbateyiniro Isaac Weyinmi, and Deputy Chief of Staff of the Government House, Sir Christopher Osakwe, were present to witness this critical engagement in the ongoing fight against cultism.
