Omo-Agege to Oborevwori, Okowa: You Are Not Welcome in APC

AGBOR/Nigeria: Former Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, has categorically ruled out any possibility of Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and his predecessor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, joining the All Progressives Congress (APC), insisting that they should remain in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Omo-Agege, who was the APC governorship candidate in the 2023 Delta election, made the statement during a meeting of APC leaders, elders, and stakeholders in Ika South and Ika North East Local Government Areas on Monday. He noted that the APC is gaining strength in Delta State, with the only remaining PDP senator set to defect and at least three House of Representatives members also preparing to join the party.

“After the 2023 elections, the PDP spread false propaganda that APC no longer exists in Delta. Yet, this is a state where we won two senatorial seats and two House of Reps seats. Today, the only PDP senator is set to join APC, and some people still say we are not on the ground. Are we not the majority party?” Omo-Agege asked.

He emphasized that while APC is open to welcoming Senator Ned Nwoko, members of the House of Representatives, House of Assembly members, and other PDP leaders, Oborevwori and Okowa would not be accepted into the party.

“In Delta Central, where I and Governor Oborevwori come from, APC won the senatorial seat and two out of three House of Reps seats, while Labour Party took the remaining one. PDP won none. Out of nine House of Assembly seats, APC secured five, PDP got four. So, which party is truly more popular?” he said.

Omo-Agege accused Oborevwori’s administration of attempting to downplay APC’s influence despite the party’s growing appeal. He also pointed out that even in Ika South and Ika North East, strongholds of Okowa and Oborevwori, APC still secured the required 25% of votes in the last election.

He urged APC members to remain focused and united, stressing that PDP’s worsening internal crisis could render the party irrelevant by 2027. “Are we even sure PDP will still exist in 2027? Their crisis at the national level is deepening. Our focus should be on winning the next elections and re-electing President Bola Tinubu.”

Omo-Agege added that Tinubu’s policies are making APC the most attractive party in Delta State, drawing interest from key political figures. However, he maintained a firm stance against any defection by Okowa and Oborevwori, stating, “We have built this party from scratch, and we will not allow people with questionable records to destroy what we have worked hard for.”

He assured members that more defections from PDP to APC were imminent. “Soon, we will have three senators, and I know the three PDP House of Reps members are joining us. Some House of Assembly members will also defect. We welcome everyone except Oborevwori and Okowa. They should remain in PDP and rebuild their party,” he declared.

Barr. Felix Morka, the APC National Publicity Secretary, also assured members that the party’s national leadership is committed to resolving any internal issues in Delta State before the 2027 elections.

Several party leaders who spoke at the event, including Hon. Fada Ibudeh, Chief Stevenson Ikpade, Chief Sunny Chuks Obuseh, Hon. Fred Ofume, Pst. Paul Ebede, Lady Philomena Agholor, Dr. Goddy Ibeh, Dr. Chamberlain Dunkwu, Mr. Godwin Ogadi, and Barr. Eugene Uzum, emphasized the need for genuine reconciliation to strengthen APC’s position ahead of the next elections.
