Akwukwu- Igbo/Nigeria: OmaJays Oasis Foundation, a non-profit organisation based in the United States of America and Africa, has donated delivery mats and sanitary towels to residents of Akwukwu-Igbo and other users of the two medical facilities in Akwukwu Igbo, headquarters of Oshimili North Local Government Area in Delta to improve hygiene during and after delivery care for mothers.
Receiving the items from OmaJays Oasis Foundation, during one of the antenatal classes at Akwukwu-Igbo Primary Health Centre, Matron Chiamaka Tina Bienichi, the officer in charge of the health facility, commended the donors for their intervention. She specifically thanked Dr. Chioma Egwuenu-Dumbuya and her spouse, John Dumbuya, co-directors of OmaJays Oasis Foundation for changing and touching lives particularly at a time like this. “We are happy to receive these items. As we all know, these supplies will ease so many problems. The money these expectant mothers would have spent buying delivery mats and sanitary towels can be channelled into other pressing needs like provisions and other needed essentials. But as we appreciate their generosity, I wish to state that we also hope to receive more items in the near future from other good spirited individuals or NGO’s. We are in dire need of items such as delivery beds, rechargeable fans, or even inverter air conditioner for our delivery room among others. May God bless them.”
Responding on behalf of the recipients, Blessing Abbah, an expectant mother, prayed for the donors and asked God to continue to watch over them.
Speaking on behalf of the foundation, Godfrey C. Osakwe, the representative of the donors eulogized Dr. Chioma Egwuenu-Dumbaya for following in the philanthropic path of her father, Chief Edwin Egwuenu, a renowned banker, philanthropist and entrepreneur. “Like her father before her, Dr. Chioma is traveling this road of humanitarianism, and all of us in this community are very proud of her and her family.”
In a similar, development, a significant quantity of the sanitary pads and delivery mats was donated to Akwukwu-Igbo General Hospital for distribution to women and girls in need. “The gesture was to help improve the health and hygiene of women and girls within and outside Akwukwu-Igbo and invariably provide them with the dignity and comfort they deserve”, Osakwe enthused. Receiving the items on behalf of the Chief Medical Director, Dr. Frank Emayomi and the hospital management team, Matron Abigail Ezinwa, thanked the donors and their foundation for deeming it fits to provide the items particularly for the expectant women, who are challenged with the present harsh economic situation in today’s Nigeria. “Many of these expectant women come to the hospital empty handed, without any plan for the baby they are expecting. Most of them will come wriggling in pain, crying – “I’m in labour, I’m in labour”, and we the nurses are also handicap in the sense that we have to improvise with our linen to catch the baby, and thereafter cover the mother and the baby with the same linen. In fact, we are very grateful and for this that she has done, her generation will hear of her, her family and her foundation. May God continue to bless all her endeavours”. Matron Ezinwa declared.
Earlier, during the epoch-making Akwukwu-Igbo Economic Development Summit 2024 held at the community town hall on Saturday 28, December, 2024, over 100 girls and women were empowered with free sanitary pads. The foundation envisioned good health and hygiene among people, a panacea for good human capital needed for the development of Akwukwu-Igbo and humanity in general.
From every indication, OmaJays Oasis Foundation is clearly living up to its name which is all about empowerment, serenity and sustainability. And this is evident in the foundation’s mission that reads in part “…to cultivate tranquil oasis fostering a world where everyone can thrive in nurturing environment. We strive to create sanctuaries of hope, healing and community; uplifting lives and promoting collective well-being.”
