Okowa Urges Married Couples to Hold onto God for a Successful Union

WARRI/Nigeria: The immediate past Governor of Delta State, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, has urged married couples across the country to remain steadfast in their faith in God as the foundation for a successful marriage.

Okowa gave the advice on Saturday at the wedding reception of Mr. and Mrs. Tega Ferguson Onwo, held in Effurun, Delta State, after the couple exchanged marital vows at the Assemblies of God Church, Warri Branch 1, Essi Layout.

Presiding over the reception ceremony, the former governor emphasized the importance of building a marriage on strong moral and spiritual values, noting that a union rooted in God’s principles would stand the test of time.

“Every marriage that must stand must be built on a solid foundation in accordance with God’s principles. Married couples should hold onto God for their marriage to be successful,” Okowa said.

Addressing the couple, he advised the bride, Chinwe, to be submissive to her husband, Tega, and encouraged the groom to love and cherish his wife, stating, “Chinwe, you should be submissive to your husband, and Tega, you should love your wife so that both of you will have a successful marriage. I wish you a fruitful union.”

Earlier in the ceremony, the District Secretary of Warri District, Assemblies of God Church, Revd. Dr. Fabian Epetuku, delivered a sermon titled “The Basis of a Fulfilled and Fulfilling Marriage.” He highlighted that marriage was ordained by God as a divine partnership, emphasizing that “any man who finds a wife finds a good thing and obtains favor from God.” He urged women to seek wisdom in supporting their husbands and advised couples to cultivate open and honest communication to build trust and confidence in their union.

The ceremony was graced by Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, and his wife, Deaconess Tobore Oborevwori, alongside other dignitaries, including the member representing Isoko South II Constituency in the Delta State House of Assembly, Hon. Ferguson Onwo, who is the groom’s father; Hon. Jonathan Ukhodiko, representing Isoko Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives; Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor, and his wife; as well as the Majority Leader of the State Assembly, Hon. Engr. Emeka Nwaobi.
