OKPANAM/Nigeria: A newly reconstructed toilet facility built by the Councilor representing DISIEC Unit 13 in Okpanam ward 9, Oshimili North Local Government Area of Delta State, Hon. Barry Eziuchebuogalanya Okonkwo has been handed over to Umegbali Primary School, Okpanam.
Speaking at handing over the ceremony of the facilities to the school, Hon. Okonkwo said that the project included three toilets for the pupils and teachers of the school.
Hon. Okonkwo stated that he carried out the project for the overall benefit of the people, especially the pupils and teachers of the school, noting that the absence of sanitary facilities could cause serious health issues.
He said that with toilet facilities, the children and their teachers would no longer face any challenge occasioned by the non-availability of toilets in the school, adding that it was his constituency project.
While saying that before now the pupils were left with no option but to defecate indiscriminately, Hon. Okonkwo urged the teachers and the pupils of the school to ensure judicious use of the facilities and maintain them to enable them to serve the purpose for which they were built.
Hon. Okonkwo, however, pledged to strive for the interests of the community, adding that he would continue to represent them effectively and would not disappoint them.
He commended the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Chief Patrick Ukah, the Ugoani of Okpanam, HRM Dr Michael Mbanefo Ogbolu and the Chairman of People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Oshimili North Local Government Area, Chief Nduka Ogwude as well as the good people of Okpanam for the opportunity to serve as a Councilor.
He used the opportunity to call on teachers of Umegbali Primary School to put in their best in guiding the children academically and morally, noting that once the children had been given a solid foundation at the primary school level, they would continue to excel in their academic activities.
Speaking to newsmen, the Headteacher of Umegbali Primary School, Mrs Jane Nwabuno Onwordi said that the project would help to relieve the stress they passed through whenever they were pressed.
Mrs Onwordi appreciated Hon. Okonkwo for the magnanimity, adding that the initiative was commendable and assured that the facilities would be maintained and protected from vandalism.
