Ogorugba Urges Peaceful NULGE Election, Mediates NURTW Crisis in Isoko North

OZORO/Nigeria: The Chairman of Isoko North Local Government Area in Delta State, Godwin Ogorugba, has called on the leadership and members of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) to ensure peace during their forthcoming election.

Ogorugba made this appeal on Thursday while receiving members of the NULGE electoral committee and aspirants at his office in Ozoro. He emphasized the importance of conducting a free, fair, and credible election, urging participants to approach the contest as a family affair rather than a do-or-die matter.

“Let the election not be a do-or-die affair but a family matter. After the election, all of you will continue as staff of this council. The welfare of staff should take precedence over blackmail or personal ambition. I have no personal interest in the outcome of this election and will work with whoever emerges victorious,” Ogorugba stated.

The council chairman also reiterated his opposition to the imposition of candidates, stressing the need for a transparent and inclusive process. He advised contestants to exhibit sportsmanship and prioritize the unity of the council workforce.

Head of Personnel Management, Mrs. Irene Onwodi, commended Ogorugba for his proactive approach and announced plans to hold a meeting with the candidates. She encouraged them to embrace sportsmanship and cautioned against divisive practices.

In another development, Ogorugba successfully resolved a leadership dispute within the Owhelogbo unit of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW). The intervention followed petitions filed over the ongoing crisis.

During a meeting at the council’s executive chamber, Ogorugba emphasized the importance of unity and respect for established hierarchies within the union. He highlighted the biblical example of Elisha’s loyalty to Elijah, noting that collaboration and mutual respect foster long-term relationships and growth.

“I believe in maintaining a proper leadership structure, and it is essential for subordinates to respect and work harmoniously with their leaders. We must prioritize the collective good over personal ambitions,” Ogorugba said.

The union members resolved to support Comrade C. Anthony as the recognized leader while dismissing factional leadership claims. Ogorugba assured the union of his administration’s commitment to fostering development within the transport sector in Owhelogbo and Isoko North.
