ABERDEEN/ Scotland: His Royal Highness, King Temple MacDonald Jamala II, the esteemed monarch of the Odual Kingdom in Rivers State, Nigeria, has been honoured with the renowned “Sword of Faith” by the Aberdeen Royal Mission in Scotland.

This symbolic artefact, tracing back to 14th-century Scottish King Robert the Bruce, underscores the deep-rooted historical connection between Scotland and Nigeria.

The prestigious event, held in Aberdeen, attracted high-profile dignitaries from Nigeria, including Princess Mayolein MacDonald, Honourable Ilamu Jonathan Arugu, Rivers State Commissioner for Social Welfare and Rehabilitation, and Chief Engineer James Ewa. Also present was Rien Corstanje, a longstanding friend of the Odual Kingdom who received a noble honour in 1999, along with several Scottish officials and well-wishers, highlighting the enduring diplomatic ties between the two nations.

In his address, Joe Ochie, President of the Aberdeen Royal Mission, expressed that the honour paid homage to King Jamala’s distinguished leadership while celebrating the legacy of Scottish missionary Mary Slessor, whose work in Nigeria left an indelible impact on Nigerian society. “This event not only honours King Jamala but also celebrates the powerful connection fostered by traditional institutions between Scotland and Nigeria,” Ochie remarked.

I am deeply honoured to receive this recognition and am committed to advancing a brighter future for the Odual Kingdom and Nigeria,” he declared.

Reflecting on the missionary’s legacy, he added, “The compassionate spirit of Mary Slessor stands as a testament to the power of empathy and dedicated service to communities. It is my sincere hope that her example will inspire future generations to collaborate across cultures and borders, fostering unity and mutual respect.”
