Oborevwori’s Development Trajectory Undeterred by Critics – Aniagwu

ASABA/Nigeria: The Delta State Government reaffirmed that Governor Sheriff Oborevwori is firmly committed to the state’s developmental agenda and remains undistracted by critics. This was disclosed by the State Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, during a news conference in Asaba on Monday. Aniagwu, accompanied by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Sir Festus Ahon, emphasized that Governor Oborevwori’s focus is on tangible progress, as evidenced by ongoing infrastructure projects across the state.

Addressing the media, Aniagwu reiterated the governor’s stance that responses to detractors would only come in the form of developmental projects. He cited the recent inspection of key projects across the three senatorial districts of the state, which underscored Governor Oborevwori’s unyielding drive to deliver on his promises. “When we got to Warri last week, our people there, with magnanimity, gave us what will be our global response to anyone attempting to misrepresent the facts. They said, ‘Governor Sheriff Oborevwori dey show workings, nor be chor chor chor,’ meaning he is not just making empty promises,” Aniagwu said.

During the inspection tour, Governor Oborevwori showcased several completed and ongoing projects, starting with the twin Ubu bridges along the Ughelli-Asaba Expressway, which have significantly reduced travel time between Warri and Asaba. He also highlighted progress on the Isoko Ring Road, where work is being fast-tracked to ensure its timely completion.

At the Southern Delta University in Ozoro, Aniagwu revealed that the College of Health Sciences is near completion, with ongoing efforts to expand the medical facility. “Governor Oborevwori commended the Vice-Chancellor and his team for attracting additional projects to the institution,” he noted. At the Orerokpe campus, the governor assured that projects would be finished in time for students to resume by September 2025.

The inspection also included Omadino Technical College in Warri South, where the governor pledged that the school would be ready for students in September. He reiterated that his administration views education as a powerful tool in addressing insecurity, emphasizing that educated youths are less likely to engage in criminal activities.

Governor Oborevwori’s development agenda extends to healthcare infrastructure, with promises to equip Central Hospital Warri, Asaba Specialist Hospital, and the Delta State University Teaching Hospital in Oghara with CT scans. He also provided updates on ongoing construction projects, including stormwater drainage around the Warri Township Stadium and the ongoing work on three flyovers in the area, with Julius Berger adhering to the project timeline.

The governor also urged contractors to prioritize quality and expedite the completion of projects. “Any contractor who has numerous jobs but cannot deliver on time and to standard will not be awarded new contracts,” Aniagwu said, echoing the governor’s strict stance on project delivery.

In a notable achievement, Governor Oborevwori brokered peace between the Aladja and Ogbe-Ijoh communities, resolving a long-standing land dispute. The agreement included the approval for the construction of the Aladja/Ogbe-Ijoh Road, further exemplifying the governor’s commitment to resolving conflicts and fostering development.

Aniagwu took the opportunity to address the opposition’s baseless criticisms, calling them misguided and disconnected from reality. “In the midst of all these developments, Governor Oborevwori will not be distracted. Politics will not cloud our focus on governance, and more projects will be approved in the next EXCO meeting,” he concluded.
