Oborevwori Woos Swedish Investors, Highlights Delta’s Business Potential

ASABA/Nigeria: Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has called on Swedish investors to explore the vast investment opportunities in the state, assuring them of a peaceful business environment, strategic location, and abundant natural resources that guarantee high returns on investment.

Governor Oborevwori made the appeal on Tuesday when he received the Swedish Ambassador to Nigeria, Annika Hahn-Englund, and her delegation at Government House, Asaba. He emphasized Delta’s economic viability, particularly in the oil and gas sector, and assured investors of a conducive environment for business growth.

“Delta State is one of the key crude oil-producing states in Nigeria, and we are open for business because it is a peaceful place,” Oborevwori stated. “We have three functional airports—the Asaba International Cargo Airport, the Osubi/Warri Airport, and the Escravos Airport, which serves the coastal oil terminal—making transportation and logistics seamless for investors.”

The governor further highlighted the state’s commitment to investment-friendly policies, including the Kwale Free Trade Zone, Koko Free Trade Zone, and Ogwashi-Uku Agro-Industrial Park, all of which offer incentives such as tax holidays and duty-free imports and exports. He assured the Swedish delegation of the state’s readiness to provide investors with relevant information on the ease of doing business in Delta.

“We invite Swedish companies to come and invest here, and we assure you of profitability,” he added. “Your visit will further strengthen our relationship with the Swedish government and encourage more investors to explore opportunities in Delta State.”

Earlier, Ambassador Hahn-Englund congratulated Governor Oborevwori on his recent recognition as Governor of the Year by ThisDay Newspaper and Arise Television, expressing her long-standing interest in visiting Delta. She reaffirmed Sweden’s commitment to strengthening trade relations with Nigeria, noting that both countries have maintained diplomatic ties since 1961.

“We have a strong relationship with Nigeria, and we continue to deepen our engagements,” she said. “Swedish companies are already active in Nigeria, particularly in ICT, infrastructure, telecom, energy, and transportation, and we look forward to expanding our investment footprint.”

She recalled the visit of Sweden’s Vice President and Prime Minister to Nigeria last year, describing it as a reflection of the growing economic partnership between both nations.

Governor Oborevwori assured the ambassador and her delegation of Delta’s commitment to fostering mutually beneficial trade and investment relationships, stressing that the state remains an attractive destination for global investors.
