Oborevwori Urges Parents to Prioritize Child Training at Baby Dedication Ceremony

WARRI/Nigeria: Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has called on parents to dedicate more time to raising their children as a solution to the rising wave of crime and social vices in the country.

Governor Oborevwori made the appeal on Sunday during the dedication of Baby Tamara Guwor, daughter of the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor, at the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Redemption Hall, Airport Road, Warri.

Speaking at the event, the governor emphasized the significance of dedicating children to God, describing it as a crucial step in laying a foundation of love, faith, and values for the younger generation.

“Baby dedication is not just a ceremony but a commitment by parents to raise their children in the way of God. When you dedicate your child to God, you pave the way for blessings and guidance in their lives,” he said.

Governor Oborevwori also used the opportunity to address the culture of extravagant celebrations, urging parents to prioritize spiritual blessings over lavish receptions.

“I’m glad there is no reception today because people often spend huge amounts on receptions. It’s more impactful to invest in the House of God, which brings greater blessings,” he stated.

During the service, the governor reaffirmed his commitment to fulfilling promises, assuring the congregation that streetlights, which had been requested, would be installed promptly.

He also congratulated Dr. Dennis Otuaro on his appointment as the Presidential Amnesty Coordinator, pledging his administration’s support to ensure Otuaro’s success. Oborevwori noted that it was the first time a Deltan had been appointed to the role, emphasizing its importance for the Niger Delta region.

Pastor Olaitan Olubiyi of RCCG Delta Province 5 expressed gratitude to the governor for addressing the church’s requests to repair Bright Hope Street and improve drainage systems to tackle flooding. He also commended Oborevwori’s dedication to supporting widows, orphans, and the less privileged in the state.

Preaching on the theme “The Everlasting Arms of the Caring God,” Pastor Olubiyi encouraged Christians to embrace God’s grace, justice, and love in their daily lives.

The dedication service was attended by notable dignitaries, including the governor’s wife, Deaconess Tobore Oborevwori; Deputy Governor Sir Monday Onyeme and his wife, Catherine Onyeme; Deputy Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Arthur Akpowowo; Hon. Thomas Ereyitomi, Member Representing Warri Federal Constituency; and other prominent guests.

The ceremony concluded with prayers for the Guwor family and a reaffirmation of faith and commitment to raising children in God’s way.
