Oborevwori Sets Deadline for Trans-Warri Road Completion, Warns Site Engineers Against Compromise

WARRI/Nigeria: Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has vowed that the long-delayed Trans-Warri Road and its associated bridges will be completed within two years, issuing a stern warning to site engineers that any compromise on their part will result in strict consequences.

Governor Oborevwori delivered this ultimatum on Tuesday while inspecting the Trans-Warri Road and bridges in Warri South Local Government Area.

He emphasized that engineers who fail to uphold standards will be held accountable for any substandard work they supervise, stressing that there are established procedures for certifying jobs, and any deviations will be met with disciplinary actions.

Addressing the contractor, Governor Oborevwori urged the acceleration of work on the project, assuring that the state government will provide continuous funding to ensure its timely completion.

He underscored his commitment to quality by recalling an incident where he postponed the inauguration of a project until he could personally verify its completion, only to discover issues upon inspection.

“We have assured Deltans that we will not accept substandard jobs, and we will ensure that all projects are properly executed,” the governor stated.

“I like visiting projects to see what has been done and what is left. This project has been crawling for the last 17 years. I have spoken with the manager, and he assured me that it can be completed in 18 months. So, we are confident that this project will be inaugurated within the next two years.”

On the matter of funding, Governor Oborevwori reassured the contractor that financial resources would not be an obstacle, provided that the work progresses as planned. “Funding is not going to be an issue. As long as you do your job, we will pay you. Once you have a certificate, we will ensure payment,” he affirmed.

The governor’s visit also included a stop at the Olu of Warri Palace in Ode-Itsekiri, where he reaffirmed his commitment to completing the project in time for the monarch’s 5th coronation anniversary.

Welcoming the governor, the Commissioner for Works (Highways and Urban Roads), Comrade Reuben Izeze, provided a historical overview of the project, noting that it was initiated by the James Ibori administration in 2006, continued under Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan, and further advanced during Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa’s tenure. He reported that 19 bridges under the main alignment had been completed.

The Olu of Warri, Ogiame Atuwatse III, commended Governor Oborevwori and his predecessors for their consistent efforts in pushing the project forward.

He expressed optimism that with the governor’s assurance of continuous funding, the project would reach completion, adding, “We are proud to see the manifestation of this project in our time and look forward to its inauguration during our 5th anniversary.”

In a related development, Governor Oborevwori also inspected the ongoing construction of the Omadino Technical College, summoning the contractors to a meeting to discuss strategies for expediting the project’s completion.
