ASABA/Nigeria: Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has reiterated his administration’s resolve to cushion the economic challenges facing residents of the state. Speaking at the flag-off of the 4th disbursement of the Delta State Community Action for Resilience and Economic Stimulus (D-CARES) program, the governor emphasized that his government is determined to ensure no Deltan suffers unduly due to the nation’s economic woes.

The event, held at the Events Centre in Asaba, saw 97,365 new beneficiaries, bringing the total number of participants in the D-CARES program to over 208,000. Governor Oborevwori hailed the program as part of his administration’s “MORE Agenda,” which focuses on inclusiveness and creating opportunities for all.

“This disbursement marks a significant milestone in our efforts to economically empower our people,” the governor stated. “We are committed to creating avenues for every Deltan, regardless of background or political affiliation, to access opportunities that will enable them to expand their businesses, create wealth, and improve their living conditions.”

Governor Oborevwori underscored the importance of inclusiveness in governance, noting that the D-CARES initiative has positively impacted lives, providing essential support to households and small businesses. He highlighted the resilience of the beneficiaries, whose stories of perseverance inspire his administration’s drive to create lasting change across the state.

“As we roll out this 4th phase, we are proud to announce that over 97,000 beneficiaries will be empowered,” Oborevwori added. “This figure represents not just numbers but individuals, families, and communities. From grants to small businesses to supporting poor and vulnerable households, we are delivering tangible change. Our hope is that this intervention will create ripples of development across Delta State.”

The governor urged the beneficiaries to maximize the opportunities provided through the program. “Use this support to grow, invest, and uplift those around you. Together, we can move Delta State forward and achieve greatness,” he said.

In addition to the D-CARES disbursement, Oborevwori revealed that the Ministry of Youths Development and the Ministry of Science and Technology are set to roll out further empowerment programs before the year ends, expanding opportunities for young people and tech entrepreneurs in the state.

Commissioner for Economic Planning and Chairman of the State CARES Steering Committee, Mr. Sonny Ekedayen, praised the governor for the significant increase in beneficiaries. He explained that the D-CARES initiative is part of the World Bank-backed Nigeria: Community Action for Resilience and Economic Stimulus (NG-CARES) program. He detailed the various platforms through which the latest beneficiaries were selected, including the State Cash Transfer Unit, Labour Intensive Public Workfare, Livelihood Support, and Community-Driven Development initiatives.

“Under result area one, a total of 97,365 Deltans have benefitted from this tranche,” Ekedayen noted. “The cumulative number of beneficiaries now stands at 208,209, a remarkable achievement for our state.”

Hon. Bridget Anyafulu, representing the Oshimili South Constituency in the Delta State House of Assembly, commended Governor Oborevwori for his dedication to poverty alleviation. She highlighted the governor’s expansion of the D-CARES program, which has grown from 36,353 beneficiaries to over 208,000 within a year.

“The D-CARES program is a lifeline for the economically disadvantaged,” Anyafulu remarked. “I urge all beneficiaries to make the most of this opportunity and support the governor’s MORE agenda, which prioritizes poverty alleviation and wealth creation.”

The D-CARES program continues to serve as a critical platform for economic empowerment in Delta State, providing much-needed relief and support to vulnerable households and businesses in the face of widespread economic challenges across the country.
