Oborevwori, PDP Delta State Deny Defection Rumours as Opposition Tactics Intensify
ASABA/Nigeria: The Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Delta State Chapter have firmly denied rumors suggesting the Governor’s defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 election.
The clarifications were made in separate press statements issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Sir Festus Ahon, and the State PDP Chairman, Chief Solomon Arenyeka.
In his statement issued in Asaba on Monday, Sir Festus Ahon described the speculation as baseless, attributing it to opposition forces threatened by Governor Oborevwori’s growing popularity and bridge-building efforts across political lines.
“Governor Oborevwori remains committed to the PDP and his MORE Agenda for the people of Delta State,” Ahon stated, emphasizing the Governor’s dedication to delivering on his electoral promises.
He further reassured Deltans that the Governor’s collaboration with the federal government was solely aimed at fostering development and progress for the state, dismissing the rumours as the work of mischief-makers and fifth columnists.
“The Governor has no reason to defect to another party, given his widespread acceptance within the PDP and the unwavering support of well-meaning Deltans and residents,” Ahon concluded.
Echoing similar sentiments, the Delta State PDP Chairman, Chief Solomon Arenyeka, condemned the rumours, describing them as a product of “jobless political hirelings and their ignoble sponsors.” In a strongly worded statement, Arenyeka denounced the speculations as vile propaganda by individuals he referred to as impostors.
“These unfounded reports are the handiwork of a notorious serial blackmailer and their cohorts, desperate to destabilize the state and discredit the Governor,” Arenyeka said. He urged the public to disregard the rumours and reaffirmed the Governor’s commitment to delivering good governance through the M.O.R.E Agenda, which focuses on social infrastructure and human capital development.
The PDP reassured its members and the public of Governor Oborevwori’s steadfast loyalty to the party and the ongoing efforts to uplift Delta State. The party called on residents to remain focused and supportive of the administration’s developmental strides, dismissing the allegations as distractions from the opposition.
Both statements underline a united front by the Governor and the PDP in addressing the speculations, signalling their resolve to maintain stability and progress in Delta State.
