Oborevwori Named New Telegraph’s Governor of the Year for Infrastructure Development

LAGOS/Nigeria: Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has been named “Governor of The Year, 2024” by New Telegraph newspaper in recognition of his strides in infrastructural development across the state.
The award, which follows a similar recognition from THISDAY/ARISE MEDIA for fiscal discipline and infrastructure advancement, was presented at a well-attended ceremony at the Oriental Hotel, Lagos, on Friday night.
Represented by his deputy, Sir Monday Onyeme, Governor Oborevwori described the award as a testament to his administration’s commitment to delivering democratic dividends to Deltans. He noted that the recognition would further strengthen the government’s resolve to execute people-oriented projects.
“This award means a lot to us because it reassures us that what we are doing is exactly what the people want. The whole world is seeing it,” Onyeme stated.
He highlighted the administration’s achievements, emphasizing that it had completed inherited projects and initiated new ones without resorting to borrowing.
“We have undertaken several infrastructure projects in Delta State—some inherited and completed, others ongoing. We have not abandoned a single project. More importantly, we have done all these without borrowing a dime, demonstrating the financial prudence of our governor,” he added.
Onyeme also pointed out improvements in education, healthcare, and human capital development, stating that Delta remains the only state in Nigeria with four fully functional public universities. He noted ongoing recruitment of teachers, expansion of healthcare facilities, and investments in agriculture and entrepreneurship through the D-CARES programme.
Chairman of the occasion, Chief Olabode George, commended the awardees for their contributions to national development, urging younger generations to emulate their service-driven leadership.
Publisher of New Telegraph, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, congratulated the recipients, while the newspaper’s Managing Director and Editor-in-Chief, Mr. Ayodele Aminu, said the awards were designed to recognize and motivate individuals making significant contributions to governance, industry, and society.
Other honorees at the event included Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, SAN, who was named “Minister of the Year,” and Chairman of Tantita Security Services, High Chief Government Ekpemupolo, recognized for his efforts in securing Nigeria’s oil assets.
