Oborevwori Lauds First Lady’s Renewed Hope Initiative, Welcomes Economic Empowerment in Delta
ASABA/Nigeria: The wife of Nigeria’s President, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has reaffirmed her commitment to economic empowerment as a central pillar of the Renewed Hope Initiative during her visit to Delta State on Thursday.
The First Lady, in her address at the official flag-off of the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) Economic Empowerment Programme, emphasized the consistent efforts of the initiative in uplifting women and youths across Nigeria’s six geo-political zones, supporting the administration’s economic reforms.
Mrs. Tinubu stated, “Economic empowerment remains a core objective of the Renewed Hope Initiative, and we have consistently delivered on this promise. Today, we are providing one thousand pre-selected women petty traders per state with grants of N50,000 each to recapitalize and grow their businesses. A total of N1.850 billion will be disbursed to 37,000 women petty traders across the nation.”
The event, which saw the distribution of recapitalization grants for 1,000 women petty traders in Delta State, was marked by a warm reception from the state’s leadership.
The Governor of Delta State, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, expressed his delight at the choice of Delta for the programme’s flag-off and commended Mrs. Tinubu for her unwavering support for the President’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
“We are happy that you chose Delta State to flag off the Renewed Hope Empowerment Programme,” Oborevwori said.
“Your coming to Delta today has brought great joy to us because this is your second home. This programme is very impactful because you have been empowering women across the 36 states of Nigeria. We took time to follow what you have been doing, showing love to the Nigerian people, uplifting the vulnerable.”
The First Lady’s visit also witnessed an additional N50 million contributions from Governor Oborevwori to the initiative, doubling the grant for each petty trader in Delta State to N100,000. Mrs. Tinubu acknowledged the gesture, highlighting the importance of such collaborations in driving economic growth and supporting the administration’s broader goals.
In her welcome address, the wife of the Governor of Delta State and State Coordinator of the Renewed Hope Initiative, Deaconess Tobore Oborevwori, praised Mrs. Tinubu’s commitment to the welfare of Nigerians through the various components of the Renewed Hope Initiative.
“Your Excellency, your commitment to the well-being of Nigerians through your Renewed Hope Initiative in Agriculture, Education, Economic Empowerment, Social Investment, and Health Care, is commendable,” she said.
Deaconess Oborevwori further underscored the impact of the initiative on Delta State, citing previous benefits, including the distribution of notebooks, scholarship schemes for students, grants for the elderly and farmers, and the provision of rice to indigent women. She also emphasized the significance of the current empowerment programme, urging the beneficiaries to maximize the opportunity for the betterment of their families and communities.
“We are here today to flag off another empowerment initiative; over thirty-seven thousand petty traders across the country will benefit from this programme. This is overwhelming and worthy of commendation,” she added.
