Oborevwori is Pushing for Coconut Farming Boom in Delta State – Aide
ASABA/Nigeria: Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State is calling on landowners across the three Senatorial Districts to join the government in a major coconut farming initiative under the MORE Agenda, aiming to create jobs and wealth for the people of Delta.
This appeal was highlighted by the Executive Assistant on Agriculture, Hon. Aneke Ifemeni, during an appearance on Orientation Panorama Platform on Voice of Delta Radio 97.9 FM.
Hon. Ifemeni emphasized the lucrative nature of coconut farming, describing it as a significant foreign exchange earner for both governments and private investors in Nigeria. He pointed out that despite the high demand for coconut products, supply remains scarce due to the limited number of farmers and low production rates.
“Our visionary governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, is deeply committed to wealth and job creation for our youth and the broader Delta community,” said Ifemeni. “He firmly believes that substantial investments in agriculture, particularly in coconut farming, will enable thousands of Deltans to become successful entrepreneurs and millionaires in the near future.”
The government has initiated a public-private partnership (PPP) model to support landowners who lack the financial resources to start coconut farming. Through this arrangement, landowners can make their land available for cultivation and share profits with the government and other investors. The initiative has already seen the acquisition of several hectares of land across Delta State, with pilot programs underway in various communities.
“This PPP arrangement not only promotes the development of coconut farming but also creates wealth and job opportunities for our people,” Ifemeni explained. “There are established export and domestic markets for coconut products, including coconut oil. It’s a thriving business, and we encourage landowners to partner with the state government.”
He also highlighted that relevant government agencies are ready to connect investors with local coconut farmers. Interested parties can reach out through the office of the Executive Assistant to the Governor on Agriculture, located at the Olorogun Felix Ibru Secretariat in Asaba, the state capital.
Governor Oborevwori’s push for coconut farming is part of a broader strategy to diversify Delta State’s economy and boost its agricultural sector, ultimately aiming to transform the lives of its citizens through sustainable development and economic empowerment.
