Oborevwori At Plenary Expresses Displeasure Of Recent Publication On His 2023 Ambition, Says No Going Back

ASABA/Nigeria: The Speaker, Delta State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori says he have offered himself to serve the people in a higher capacity come 2023 and there is no going back.

Addressing members at the resumed plenary of the House after about three weeks break, the Speaker noted that by the grace of God and the goodwill of his teeming supporters, he remains a frontline aspirant in the 2023 governorship race.

Rt Hon Oborevwori said there was the need to draw attention on an unfortunate publication on the social media on Friday 11th February, 2022 designed to cause disaffection in the State.

The Speaker described the publication as the handiwork of faceless, wicked and enemy of cherished democracy that encourages open participation in electoral process.

He said in as much as he acknowledge the rights of others to pursue their political interests, people must desist from provocative and inciting utterances.

“On this note, I would like to draw attention to an unfortunate publication on the social media on Friday 11th February, 2022 designed to cause disaffection among us and the State. It is the handiwork of faceless, wicked and enemy of our cherished democracy that encourages open participation in our electoral process. These people lack courage and therefore created avatar to unleash their falsehood and evil in the social media space”.

“My dear colleagues, I have offered myself to serve our people in a higher capacity come 2023 and there is no going back. By the grace of Almighty God and the goodwill of our teeming supporters, I remain a frontline aspirant in the 2023 governorship race”, the Speaker stated.

Rt Hon Oborevwori called for caution, and stressed the need for politicians to educate and guide their supporters to tow the path of decency in their approach to issues, saying that politics should be issue-based and not attack on personalities.

He appealed to all the gladiators to pursue their aspirations in peace and harmony for the interest of the  people and the State, stressing the need for all to respect the dignity and sanctity of others no matter how they felt about them.

“In as much as I acknowledge the rights of others to pursue their political interests, people must desist from provocative and inciting utterances. Let us caution, educate and guide our supporters to tow the path of decency in their approach to issues. We are all brothers and not enemies and therefore, politics should be issue-based and not attack on personalities”.

“Let me once again appeal to all the gladiators to pursue their aspirations in peace and harmony for the interest of our people and the State. We should respect the dignity and sanctity of others no matter how you felt about them.

“I would like to reassure my colleagues and our constituents that the leadership of the Seventh Assembly is anchored on accountability and transparency. As head of the Legislature for almost five years now, I have not been invited by any anti- graft agency for fraud related issues, he emphasized.

The Speaker commended his colleagues for their commitment and support for the programs and activities of the Seventh Assembly, saying  “the leadership of the House will continue to draw and rely on the tremendous support of members and staff till the end of the Seventh Assembly. The leadership of the House acknowledges your loyalty and push for the success of the House”.

Rt Hon Oborevwori reminded members that there are a number of Bills to consider, process and pass before the end of the session in June and urged them to deploy their effectiveness and efficiency towards the passage of the Bills.

He thanked Deltans and all residents in the State for their continued confidence and goodwill for the House, stating that as representatives of the people, they will at all times promote the common good, welfare and security of all.

“Distinguished colleagues, let me commend you for the peace and stability in the House. Delta State House of Assembly is one of the most vibrant State Houses of Assembly in the country. This is because of your collective efforts and strength of character. Let us therefore continue to work together with His Excellency, Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, our dear Governor, to achieve the Stronger Delta Vision, he concluded.
