Oborevwori and Okowa’s Relationship Remains Strong – Oghenesivbe
ASABA/Nigeria: The Director General of the Delta State Orientation and Communications Bureau, Dr Fred Latimore Oghenesivbe, has assured that the close relationship between Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and his predecessor, Senator Dr Ifeanyi Okowa, will remain intact throughout the current administration and beyond.
Speaking during a live radio interview on Sunday, Dr Oghenesivbe dismissed rumours suggesting that Senator Okowa has a hand in the decision-making of the current government. He emphasized that Governor Oborevwori has adopted an independent leadership style since assuming office on May 29, 2023, and that Okowa’s influence does not and will not shape governance under Oborevwori.
He reaffirmed that Oborevwori is committed to maintaining strong ties not just with Okowa but with other former governors and political figures across Delta State, regardless of political affiliations. According to Oghenesivbe, these relationships are a key part of the state’s political stability, despite attempts by detractors to disrupt the unity between the governor and his predecessor.
Oghenesivbe criticised certain political actors already positioning themselves for the 2027 elections, accusing them of launching media attacks aimed at tarnishing the reputations of their perceived opponents. He warned that such tactics could backfire and harm the political relevance of those involved.
He praised Governor Oborevwori as a focused and pragmatic leader, dedicated to the successful implementation of his MORE Agenda, which has already brought positive changes to the lives of Deltans. The governor, he said, remains undistracted by opposition strategies and is committed to delivering on his promises to the people.
Oghenesivbe urged those critical of the governor to reconsider their stance and support the administration’s efforts to move Delta forward. He expressed confidence that the governor’s performance will speak for itself when the 2027 elections arrive, ensuring that Asaba Government House will not be vacant.
He also called on journalists, bloggers, and media professionals in the state to highlight the governor’s achievements and contribute to the administration’s success by offering constructive criticism. Oghenesivbe commended the leadership of the state’s journalists, particularly under Comrade Churchill Oyowe, for upholding professional ethics and standards.
The communications chief stressed the crucial role that journalists play in governance and urged them to resist becoming tools for political mischief makers. He warned against the dangers of spreading fake news, hate speech, and divisive rhetoric that could harm the peace and stability of the state.
Oghenesivbe also highlighted the governor’s remarkable performance in office, noting that Oborevwori has exceeded expectations in just over a year. He called for unity among all ethnic groups in the state, insisting that the governor’s leadership has fostered peaceful coexistence.
“The social media is flooded with divisive propaganda aimed at creating ethnic tensions and undermining the relationship between Governor Oborevwori and Senator Okowa,” Oghenesivbe said. “But the truth is that their bond remains strong, and no media campaign can tear them apart.”
He concluded by stating that Governor Oborevwori’s leadership style is distinct from that of any of his predecessors and that both Oborevwori and Okowa, as members of the Peoples Democratic Party, will continue to work together to advance the state.
“Governor Oborevwori’s MORE Agenda is on track, and its positive impact on the socio-economic wellbeing of Deltans is clear for all to see. Let us all join hands to support his vision for Delta, and together we can take the state beyond 2027,” Oghenesivbe added.
