Nwoko Declares Irrevocable Commitment to Anioma State as He Meets Asagba of Asaba

ASABA/Nigeria: Senator Ned Nwoko, representing Delta North in the National Assembly, expressed renewed confidence in the creation of Anioma State during a courtesy visit to the Asagba of Asaba, Obi Professor Epiphany Azinge, on Sunday.

In a meeting marked by optimism and resolve, Nwoko assured the recently crowned monarch of his unwavering dedication to actualizing Anioma statehood, a long-sought aspiration of Delta North people.

Speaking at the Asagba’s palace in Asaba, Nwoko disclosed that the Federal Government and relevant authorities are receptive to the idea, hinting at a promising outlook for the creation of Anioma.

“Anioma state is a pressing need for our people, who stand united across political and social divides in support of this cause,” the Senator stated, underscoring the region’s shared vision for self-determination.

As the principal advocate for Anioma statehood, Nwoko emphasized that his commitment remains “irrevocable,” having championed the push with a bill in the National Assembly.

He appealed for the Asagba’s support to mobilize further momentum and described the monarch’s role as vital to realizing Anioma’s potential.

Nwoko also took the opportunity to celebrate Obi Professor Azinge’s academic and administrative stature, praising the monarch’s capacity to lead Delta’s traditional institutions with distinction.

He expressed admiration for the Asagba’s experience, adding that Azinge’s background in international affairs and preeminence as Asaba’s leader makes him well-suited to advance Delta’s development.

“Anioma state is crucial to me and will be achieved through collective effort. I am equally committed to lasting infrastructure and initiatives to empower our people,” Nwoko affirmed, outlining ongoing projects, including the Ogwashi-Uku Dam and Okpai Power Plant, which he said will significantly impact the region.

The Asagba of Asaba responded with appreciation for Nwoko’s “strategic strides” and advocacy, commending the Senator’s leadership in championing Anioma and Delta’s interests.

The monarch expressed hope for the fulfillment of the Anioma statehood vision, acknowledging Nwoko’s efforts to elevate the Federal College of Education in Asaba into a full-fledged university.

“Asaba is the only state capital without a Federal university, and establishing one here would fulfill a longstanding wish, honoring the sacrifices made during the war-time massacre of Asaba people in 1967,” Azinge said.

Pledging continued support, the Asagba remarked, “On behalf of Asaba Kingdom, we are proud of you. Continue to propagate the Anioma identity and philosophy.”
