NIPR Launches Initiative to Tackle Nigeria’s Reputation Crisis

ABUJA/Nigeria: In a concerted effort to address Nigeria’s escalating reputation challenges, the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) has unveiled the Nigeria Reputation Management Group (NRMG).

This initiative, developed to enhance and reposition the nation’s reputation on the global stage, was announced by NIPR President and Chairman of Council, Dr Ike Neliaku, on Sunday, 13th October 2024.

Dr Neliaku explained that the NRMG aims to reposition Nigeria’s reputation capital as a vital national asset, employing a private-sector-driven approach. The initiative, he said, is a professional solution that will bridge both public and private sectors, working towards building a reputation for Nigeria that commands domestic respect, global competitiveness, and attracts productive investments.

“The greatest problem our nation faces is a lack of reputation. When a country’s image is weak, the economy inevitably suffers,” Dr Neliaku remarked. “This challenge requires a professional solution, and only experts in the field of public relations can tackle it effectively. That is why, as professionals, we are committed to offering our best for the service of the nation in this regard.”

The NRMG will operate under the legal framework of the NIPR, with a robust governance structure designed to provide policy direction and high-quality advisory services. This framework will ensure that the group is empowered to steer Nigeria’s reputation management efforts in the right direction, guided by the leadership of the Institute.

The formal launch of the NRMG is set to take place on Tuesday, 15th October 2024. The event will feature prominent figures, including the Minister of Foreign Affairs, H.E. Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar, OON, as the Special Guest of Honour. Dr John Momoh, OON, NPOM, Chairman of Channels Television, will serve as Chairman of the Occasion, while the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Idris Mohammed, fnipr, will act as the Chief Host.

The launch is expected to draw attention to the crucial role reputation management plays in national development, offering a strategic and professional approach to transforming Nigeria’s image and making it a more attractive destination for global investors.
