NIPR Celebrates Dapo Oyewole’s Landmark Appointment as Pioneer Secretary General of CoSPAL
ABUJA/Nigeria: The Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) has extended warm congratulations to its esteemed member, Dapo Oyewole, on his historic election as the inaugural Secretary General of the Conference of Speakers and Presidents of African Legislatures (CoSPAL) in Accra, Ghana.
In a congratulatory message on Tuesday, NIPR President Dr Ike Neliaku, speaking from Lagos during a five-day working visit, praised Oyewole’s achievement as a well-earned testament to his exceptional dedication, creativity, and leadership. Oyewole’s work, particularly as Special Adviser to the Speaker of Nigeria’s 9th Assembly during CoSPAL’s establishment, was noted as pivotal.
“Your election did not come as a surprise to us,” Dr Neliaku stated. “We have long recognised your certified expertise as a Public Relations professional and your commitment to leadership in various national roles. Your competence, capacity, and passion have shone brightly over the years.”
Dr Neliaku further encouraged Oyewole to uphold the ethical standards of the Public Relations profession in his new role. He remarked that Oyewole’s position offers a valuable platform to elevate the values of the NIPR and represent Nigeria’s public relations profession across Africa and beyond.
The NIPR also expressed gratitude to key figures who supported Oyewole’s successful election, including the Speaker of Nigeria’s 10th Assembly, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, his Deputy, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu, the President of CoSPAL and Ghana’s Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Bagbin, as well as Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, the Speaker of the 9th Assembly and current Chief of Staff to the Nigerian President. Additionally, the role of Prof. Abubakar Sulaiman, Director General of the Nigeria Institute of Legislative and Democratic Studies (NILDS), was recognised.
Established in 2020, CoSPAL unites Speakers and Presidents of Parliaments across Africa’s 54 countries, fostering cooperation and collective progress on legislative issues and democratic development throughout the continent.
In his current role as Senior Special Assistant to President Bola Tinubu on International Cooperation, Oyewole is expected to bring his wealth of experience to bear, advancing CoSPAL’s mission of strengthening African parliamentary collaboration and amplifying Nigeria’s leadership on the continental stage.
