Nigeria’s President Bola Ahmed Tinubu Urged to Prioritize Policies that Nourish the Nation’s Hungry Masses
IJEBU-JESA/Nigeria: In a solemn gathering at St. Matthew’s Cathedral, Ijebu-Jesa, Osun State, the Rt. Revd. Isaac Oluyamo, Bishop of Ijesa North Anglican Diocese, issued a fervent call to Nigeria’s President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and his administration, during a sermon at the first-year remembrance service in memory of the late Archbishop of Lagos Ecclesiastical Province and Bishop of Lagos, the Most Revd. Humphrey Bamisebi Olumakaiye, Bishop Oluyamo.
Oluyamo stressed the need of imperative of policies and programs that could alleviate the hardships faced by ordinary Nigerians and improve their quality of life.
The Bishop’s message to President Tinubu and his team encompassed a range of issues. He not only emphasized the urgency of addressing the nation’s economic struggles but also underscored the critical importance of bolstering the security of lives and property for all Nigerians. Bishop Oluyamo’s words carried a solemn reminder that “God is watching them” as they steer the ship of the nation.
Furthermore, Bishop Oluyamo issued a compelling call to prayer for Nigeria’s leader and his team, urging the citizenry to offer unwavering support to ensure the success of their governance, and to strive towards making Nigeria a place that all citizens can take pride in.
“In his words, ‘You should always pray for Nigeria’s President, His Excellency, Bola Tinubu. People around him and working with him must always remember that God is watching them at all times. They must focus on job creation and make policies that will put food on the tables of the ordinary Nigerians. We must all work together for the unity of this nation with a view to creating a Nigeria of our dreams’,” the Bishop stated, emphasizing the collective responsibility of the nation in shaping its destiny.
Bishop Oluyamo also took the opportunity to pay tribute to the late Archbishop Olumakaiye, describing him as an exemplar of good Christian character, unwavering devotion, and a life dedicated to the betterment of society through a steadfast focus on Christ. He lauded the late Archbishop’s pivotal role in the establishment of the Diocese and the construction of the present Bishop’s Office, commemorating his legacy by naming a Canon Stall in the Cathedral in his honor.
The service did not limit its prayers and concerns to Nigeria alone. The Bishop extended his heartfelt prayers for the Governor of Ondo State, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, and invoked blessings for peaceful and successful gubernatorial elections in Imo, Kogi, and Bayelsa States. Additionally, the Diocesan expressed his deep-seated hopes for peace to be restored in troubled regions worldwide, including Israel, Gaza, Russia, and Ukraine.
