Niger Delta Peace Advocate Calls for Independent Probe into Killing of Military Officers

WARRI/Nigeria: Renowned peace and development advocate, Comrade Mulade Sheriff, has urged the federal government to conduct an impartial investigation into the recent killing of 17 military officers in Okuama community, Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State. He emphasized the need for the investigation to be free from political interference at all levels of government.

In a statement, Sheriff, a United Nations Peace ambassador, stressed the importance of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration taking decisive action to assure Nigerians and support security personnel in their duty to protect lives and property. He condemned the brutal manner in which the officers were killed, describing it as heinous and barbaric.

Sheriff called for an investigative panel that is honest, dedicated, and committed to uncovering the perpetrators of the crime, ensuring that justice is served and preventing future incidents. He urged Nigerians to support security agencies, emphasizing that security is a collective responsibility.

Furthermore, Sheriff called on all Nigerians, regardless of their background, to join hands in supporting President Tinubu’s efforts to tackle insecurity, highlighting the need for a safe environment to attract tourists and investors. He appealed to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State, traditional rulers, and stakeholders to collaborate in ensuring the safety of the state and creating job opportunities for youths.

Sheriff’s plea underscores the urgent need for a thorough and impartial investigation into the tragic incident, as well as the importance of collective action in addressing the broader issue of insecurity in Nigeria.
