ABUJA/Nigeria: Senator Ned Nwoko has reaffirmed his dedication to the development of Delta North, assuring his constituents that he remains steadfast in his pursuit of meaningful progress for the Anioma people. Addressing his supporters, the lawmaker expressed concern over the region’s long-standing neglect despite its contributions to Delta State and Nigeria. He criticized what he described as a failure of leadership at the state level, stating that Anioma has suffered from empty promises and unfulfilled commitments.
Nwoko lamented the absence of critical infrastructure in the region, highlighting the lack of electricity from the Okpai power plant, the underutilization of the Ogwashi-Uku Dam, and the poor state of roads connecting key communities. He also reiterated his push for a Delta State Airline and a state rail network, which he believes would significantly boost economic activities. According to him, these projects have been consistently ignored due to a lack of political will.
The senator also revealed his frustrations with the Delta State government, alleging that despite being invited to recommend individuals for appointments, none of his nominees were considered. He accused the administration of sidelining Anioma’s interests in political appointments and governance. “I can no longer be part of this failed system,” he stated, insisting that his priority remains the well-being of his constituents rather than political allegiances.
Highlighting his legislative achievements, Nwoko noted that he had sponsored 26 bills and 22 motions, including the Anioma State Creation Bill, which has advanced to the committee stage. He expressed optimism that under the current federal administration, the dream of Anioma State would soon become a reality. He also pointed to his efforts in securing federal institutions for Delta North, such as the proposed upgrade of the College of Education (Technical) Asaba to a Federal University of Technology and the establishment of an orthopedic hospital at Onicha-Ugbo.
Beyond lawmaking, the senator emphasized his direct interventions through constituency projects and empowerment initiatives. He listed several completed and ongoing projects, including road rehabilitations, electrification schemes, provision of boreholes, medical outreach programs, and youth empowerment schemes. He stated that through partnerships with the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), several vital infrastructure projects have been secured, including the rehabilitation of major roads and the installation of solar streetlights in key towns.
Nwoko reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring that Delta North benefits from sustainable development initiatives. He promised to continue advocating for improved access to healthcare, education, and economic opportunities for his people. He maintained that his move to align with a new political structure was driven by the need to secure better prospects for his constituents, not personal ambition. “My loyalty has never been to individuals—it is and will always remain to the people,” he declared.
Calling on Anioma sons and daughters to stand with him, Nwoko urged them to embrace a future of dignity and progress. He assured his people that his efforts to uplift Delta North would not relent, promising that the region would soon witness the transformation it has long deserved. “Anioma must rise. Anioma will rise. And together, we will claim our rightful place!” he declared.
