Ndokwa Women Writes Okowa, Demands For Deputy Governor Slot
KWALE/Nigeria: Ndokwa Women, under the aegies of Women Wing of Ndokwa Neku Union, NNU, had demanded from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, the office of the Deputy Governor in the 2023 election.
The demand in a letter addressed to the Governor of Delta State, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, and signed by the woman leader, Prof. Julie Umukoro, Titled “AN OPEN LETTER BY NDOKWA WOMEN TO HIS EXCELLENCY SEN. DR. IFEANYI ARTHUR OKOWA” dated June 4, 2022.
The women while acknowledging the achievements of the Governor, stated that they had decided to shun docility, by choosing to assert their collective consciousness through the letter.
“Today, we shun the path of docility, choosing rather to assert ourselves and our collective consciousness, through this letter, that we may articulate our views and vision clearly without any reservations.”
“Permit me, Your Excellency, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa to state unequivocally, on behalf of Ndokwa women, that we have followed closely your antecedents through your first and second tenures as Governor of Delta State.”
“We say without fear or favour that we proudly associate with your leadership qualities, as we also admit that no man is perfect and that it is difficult to please everybody at all times.”
“Therefore, we say that your great leadership acumen and your ability to negotiate, engineer and re engineer ideas for problem solving, has remained your forte and this, we admit, we also admire in you.”
“Well done so far, our dear governor. We, Ndokwa Women, are expressing our solidarity through this medium, and also congratulate you for the milestones, especially your ability to conclusively conduct the election primaries of your dear party in peace.”
“As you well know, sir, women are more particular about peaceful interventions, because when men choose the path of war, we bear the brunt by becoming widows and/or losing our children to such crisis.”
“Peace is important to us, because if we do not discourage non-peaceful paths of negotiations of our ideals, we unduly compromise and mortgage the future of our children and unborn generations.”
“Once again, we thank you for the peaceful conduct of the just concluded election primaries in the state.”
“Our dear Governor, it may interest you to know that the cry against the marginalisation of Ndokwa people in terms of infrastructure and human capital development is real.”
“However we, Ndokwa Women are saying that we are even more marginalised in this regard, when we zero in on what your administration has done to uplift the image of the Ndokwa woman.”
“May I seize this opportunity to thank you for the appointment of a few Ndokwa women as Special Assistants in your administration.”
“Negligible few, perhaps as our database showcasing our brand of bright and best Ndokwa women is probably not within your purview.”
“We are clearly not on top in this regard, as we are yet to provide you with the necessary and appropriate instrument that should avail you access to ascertain the quality of existing Ndokwa Women.”
“Such database might have aided you to know that we have eminently qualified Ndokwa women for top notch positions in your government. We shall not fail to correct this anomaly going forward.”
“However, your Excellency sir, Ndokwa women wish to clearly state that your recently concluded election primaries, from all indications, are more phallocentric than not, as it did not look in the direction of projecting women, particularly in Ndokwa land.”
“This does not go down well with the Ndokwa woman, I must confide.”
“To correct this yawning gap, our agitation is for the slot of the Deputy Governor of the state, a paradigm currently operating in a good number of states in Nigeria today.”
“Ndokwa Women make bold to request this in good faith, that come 2023, a qualified Ndokwa Woman should be considered for the position of Deputy Governor of Delta State.”
