Ndokwa Neku Backs Anioma State Creation, Applauds Senator Nwoko’s Leadership

EZHIONUM/Nigeria: The Ndokwa Neku Union (NNU), the apex body representing the Ndokwa-Ukwuani people of Delta State, has declared its support for the creation of Anioma State, as proposed in a bill by Senator Ned Nwoko, who represents Delta North Senatorial District in the National Assembly.

The President-General of Ndokwa Neku, General Mike Ndubisi (rtd), announced the group’s endorsement during a courtesy visit by Senator Nwoko at Ndubisi’s residence in Ezhionum, Ukwuani Local Government Area.

Speaking at the gathering, which was attended by executive members of Ndokwa Neku, General Ndubisi emphasized the significant benefits that the creation of Anioma State would bring to the entire Ndokwa nation.

“On Anioma state, we stand firm. The Ndokwa Nation fully supports its creation, as it is for the good of our people,” General Ndubisi declared. He further praised Senator Nwoko’s legislative efforts, adding, “Distinguished Senator Ned Nwoko, I wholeheartedly welcome you.”

“Your performance at the National Assembly so far has been outstanding and commendable. We will continue to support your good works for Anioma people and the nation.”

In his remarks, Senator Nwoko highlighted the strategic importance of Ndokwa land in the push for Anioma State, noting that the region harbors the largest gas deposits in West Africa and is a significant oil producer.

Despite its wealth, however, he lamented the gross underdevelopment and neglect the area faces within Nigeria’s federal structure.

Senator Nwoko emotionally recounted a personal experience in a remote Ndokwa village where he witnessed goats living side by side with humans in deplorable conditions, a sight he described as a reflection of the region’s deep neglect.

He stressed that his agitation for Anioma State was rooted in his desire to uplift the people and bring about freedom and development, not for personal gain.

“I desire Anioma for our common liberty, development, and progress. I am not interested in being Anioma’s first governor. God has blessed me, and I seek no validation or material gain from this cause,” he stated, reiterating that the first governor of Anioma should come from the Ndokwa area.

Senator Nwoko emphasized that his commitment to Anioma State is a continuation of a struggle that began in the 1950s, and he pledged to see it through with the support of the people. “I have the experience of fighting for the people.

I can confidently recall how I attracted the London-Paris Club loan refunds of $20 billion to federal, state, and local governments, which significantly boosted the national economy,” Nwoko said.

Touching on his extensive education and legal career in England, Senator Nwoko explained his understanding of global economic systems. He pointed to his ongoing efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s economy, including a bill he initiated to make it compulsory for the naira to be used for all socio-economic transactions within the country.

“We must ban the payment of expatriates and goods in foreign currencies and eliminate the parallel market to make the naira strong and grow the economy,” he explained.

Senator Nwoko also highlighted some of his key service projects aimed at benefiting the Ndokwa community. These include the Okpai electricity power project, proposals for the establishment of a Nigerian Defense Academy in Ndokwa land, empowerment programs, and advocacy efforts against gas flaring and environmental degradation.

He assured the people that he had compiled comprehensive data on their needs and challenges, which would be forwarded to the relevant authorities for action.
