Ndokwa at a Crossroad: The Urgent Need for Unity, Accountability, and Leadership
As the 2027 general elections approach, the Ndokwa people stand at a critical juncture in their socio-political journey. The upcoming election for the leadership of the Ndokwa Neku Union (NNU), the apex socio-cultural organization of the region, presents a unique opportunity to redefine Ndokwa’s trajectory. For far too long, this crucial process has been marred by controversies, political interference, and self-serving leadership, depriving Ndokwa of the strong, credible voice it desperately needs. Now is the time for the people to prioritize unity, demand accountability, and embrace strategic leadership to secure a prosperous future.
The Organized Ndokwa Effort (ONE), an apolitical group committed to advancing Ndokwa’s development, has aptly noted that the administration of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori offers a pivotal moment for progress. With Ndokwa indigenes holding influential positions such as Deputy Governor, Commissioner for Finance, and Managing Director of DESOPADEC, the region wields significant political and economic leverage in Delta State. This is a rare alignment of circumstances that Ndokwa must capitalize on. As ONE rightly stated, “This is a defining moment for the Ndokwa people to align their developmental priorities with the state’s vision.”
However, past experiences serve as a stark reminder of how a few individuals, driven by personal ambition, have repeatedly compromised Ndokwa’s collective interests. Critical projects, such as improved power transmission from the Okpai Independent Power Plant and road infrastructure, have languished due to this betrayal of trust. The people must reject such divisiveness and demand that those seeking leadership positions in the NNU embody transparency, integrity, and an unwavering commitment to the public good.
The incoming leadership of the NNU must take inspiration from the words of John F. Kennedy: “Ask not what your country can do for you—ask what you can do for your country.” Ndokwa needs leaders who will prioritize developmental goals over personal gain, actively advocate for key initiatives, and hold the government accountable to the needs of the people. This requires a level of unity and strategic collaboration that has often been missing in Ndokwa socio-political landscape.
Governor Oborevwori’s calm and strategic approach to governance serves as an example for navigating the complexities of Delta State’s political terrain. The Ndokwa leadership must emulate this model, rejecting infighting and presenting a united front. Unity among the Ndokwa people is not just a moral imperative; it is a strategic necessity. Divisions within the community weaken its collective bargaining power and limit its ability to secure its rightful place in Delta State’s development agenda.
The 2027 elections represent more than just a chance to elect new leaders; they are an opportunity to redefine Ndokwa’s identity and destiny. It is a time to reject the era of political jobbers who use their positions for personal gain while neglecting the region’s pressing needs. The new leadership must be the voice and advocate of the people, pushing for transformative projects and long-term prosperity. Ndokwa cannot afford to continue playing second fiddle due to the failures of those entrusted with leadership.
This is the moment for Ndokwa to rise and take its place among the leading ethnic nationalities in Delta State. Our Nation must follow the example of others who fiercely guard their patrimony while holding the government accountable. By demanding credible leadership, rejecting divisiveness, and embracing unity, Ndokwa can finally secure its place as a beacon of progress. The time for decisive action is now, and the people must seize this moment to ensure that the 2027 elections mark the beginning of a new and brighter chapter in their history.
