NAWOJ South-South Zone Urges Delta State Government to Establish IDP Camp for Okuoma Community
ASABA/Nigeria: The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), South-South Zone, has called on the Delta State government to establish an Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp to cater for vulnerable persons from Okuoma community in Bomadi Local Government Area. This plea follows escalating tension after the killing of soldiers on a peace mission.
In a statement signed by the Zonal Vice Chairperson, Comrade Stella Macaulay, and the Zonal Secretary, Comrade Eunice Emeyazia, NAWOJ expressed condolences to the families of the soldiers of 181 Amphibious Battalion, Bomadi Local Government Area, who were killed during the peace mission to Okuoma community on Thursday, 14 March 2024.
The statement described the incident as unfortunate, highlighting that the Commanding officer, two Majors, one Captain, and 12 Soldiers responded to a distress call regarding the communal crisis between the Okuama and Okoloba communities.
NAWOJ urged the state government to promptly investigate and bring to book all those involved in the heinous crime. The association emphasized its solidarity with the families of the deceased soldiers, acknowledging the fallen soldiers as husbands, fathers, brothers, sons, friends, and breadwinners.
Furthermore, NAWOJ encouraged the military personnel to remain resolute in their mandate of maintaining peace and security in the country, noting that many citizens appreciate their sacrifices. The association concluded by offering prayers for the repose of the souls of the deceased soldiers.
